Haim have announced an anniversary show to celebrate 10 years since the release of their debut LP, Days Are Gone. The show will take place at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire and will see Haim perform their debut album in full.

Speaking on the impact of the album, Alana Haim said, “The crazy thing about ‘Days Are Gone’ is that the first thing that we ever came out with was the ‘Forever’ EP and we put that out on the internet without knowing how to promote things.”

She continued, “We didn’t know how to get music out there. The only thing that we knew was that we were super proud of what we had finally created after being a band for six years at that point. We had finally gotten a recording that we loved, and we were like, ‘Cool, we have this. What do you do with it?’ So we put it on the internet with absolutely no idea what was going to happen. And it completely changed our lives.”

Bassist Este Haim also shared, “A lot of the songs we’ve written when we were in our twenties mean something different to us now that we are in our thirties. I don’t know if we are any wiser, though.”

Following its release in 2013, Days Are Gone reached No.1 on the UK charts, No.2 on the Billboard Top Alternative Rock Album chart and No.6 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Haim have also created a special edition vinyl reissue of the album, availabe to pre-order here, set to be released on 29th September.

Haim took to Twitter to celebrate the Days Are Gone 10th anniversary, writing, “This year marks the 10 year anniversary of our first record, and our baby, “ Days Are Gone”. This record was a labor of love, with songs we’d been writing since high school in our living room.”

The 1975 have been announced as the replacement headlining act at Reading and Leeds Festival 2023, following former headliner Lewis Capaldi’s hiatus from touring.

Lewis Capaldi recently announced that he will be taking a break from work commitments following his performance at Glastonbury in order to “adjust to the impact” of living with Tourette’s syndrome. Capaldi wrote, “I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped three weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend so much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time.”

This announcement followed his decision to take a break to prepare himself for his Glastonbury performance, but has ultimately ended in a longer hiatus than initially planned.

One such commitment that Capaldi will be missing is the headlining slot of Reading and Leeds Festival, where he was set to headline Reading on Saturday 26th August and Leeds on Sunday 27th August. The festival organisers addressed his cancellation, writing, “We’re gutted that Lewis Capaldi won’t be performing at R&L this year, but health comes first and we wish him a speedy recovery.”

The 1975 have now been announced as the replacement headlining act, and are reportedly close friends with Capaldi. At The 1975’s gig at Finsbury Park on 2nd July, Matty Healy addressed Capaldi, saying “I want to send my sincerest thoughts to Lewis Capaldi who is a dear friend of mine, who on the day when he had to cancel his tour, checked in on me. And it’s also a reflection on how hard being a solo artist is as I would not be doing this show if I didn’t have these amazing men and women behind me.”

The 1975 have decided to use their headlining slot to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their self-titled debut album, released in 2013. Frontman Matty Healy announced this decision onstage at TRNSMT festival, telling the crowd, “So, on Saturday at Reading and Sunday at Leeds in celebration of 10 years of our debut album, The 1975 will be playing that album in full in support of our good friend Lewis Capaldi. If you’ve got tickets, good for you. If you haven’t, go and get them. We’ll see you there.”

The band also took to social media to confirm that this will be a 10th anniversary performance of their debut album.

British pop rockers The Vamps have confirmed a special announcement, in celebration of the band’s tenth anniversary, they will launch the campaign 10 Years Of The Vamps. The celebratory series will consist of a greatest hits album and an arena tour set to take place this winter. The band was formed in 2012 and initially found fame through YouTube, the group consists of lead vocalist Bradley Will Simpson, lead guitarist James Daniel Brittain-McVey, bassist Connor Samuel John Ball and Drummer Tristan Oliver Vance Evans.

During the group’s ten years together, they have released five studio albums and will utilise this back catalogue to mark the anniversary, a special greatest hits fanzine will be released on 14th October. The compilation has been created with a very personal touch and will contain different forms of media, including photos, special edition band merchandise, art cards and a CD with a tracklist of unreleased recordings. All the specially curated contents will be enclosed within a zine book, the publication will also include documents which chart the band’s career, further exclusive photographs of the group and the band member’s personal objects, a QR which provides more links to content and exclusively created band interviews.

Brittain McVey has spoken with BANG Showbiz concerning the group’s tin anniversary, “I think for a lot of people, there are various moments over the last 10 years that offer up nostalgia. Up until this point, every tour has been based on a specific album, like last year we had the ‘Cherry Blossom’ album and tour in September. But this one is going to be different because we want to get all the albums from the last decade into the show. Hopefully, it will be the sort of show where – some people might have been really big fans of the first or the second album and we want people to relive those moments with us. It’s going to be emotional, but it’s going to be so hard to pick a set list because we’ve got five albums now!”

Throughout the group’s career they have enjoyed great success, The Vamps scored their first number one album with their third studio album Night & Day and received two Gold certifications for their first two albums Meet The Vamps and Wake Up. Due to their commercial success, the band have worked with some big names in music such as Demi Lovato on the 2014 single “Somebody To You” and performed with Taylor Swift on tour.

Frontman Simpson has also spoken on the group’s experiences, the singer talks about how the band had opportunities to meet and work with their heroes, “Meeting Dave Grohl for me was just ridiculous because he’s been one of my idols for so long. They say don’t meet your heroes but it was just very inspiring to learn that you can be a good person and also just be a sheer legend. Connor got to meet Brendon Urie from Panic at the Disco. James as well, like when we got to tour with Taylor [Swift] which was amazing.”

I understand that this is a thing that seems to get churned out at every landmark anniversary for every album that made an impact on anyone, but… that being said; I still find it incredibly strange that Alt-J’s Mercury Prize-winning debut An Awesome Wave has hit its 10th anniversary. That might be something to do with me in particular, seeing as Alt-J were one of the first bands that caught my attention simply because they were a bit odd. But my personal feelings aside, anyone in their mid-20s with an affiliation for art-pop or alternative indie is going to have an absolute field day at the band’s anniversary show at London’s Brixton Academy. Set to go ahead on May 17th, the band have promised to perform their debut in full, tickets for the show go on sale at 10am BST next Friday (April 22nd) here. Until then though, you’ll have to get away with a new performance of an Alt-J classic. See below a performance of “Breezeblocks” on BBC Radio 6 from February.

I think most would agree with me when I say that Alt-J never really topped their debut, but that’s not through lack of trying. An Awesome Wave was so fresh and clean that when we all got our first taste of the band, it was hard to put your finger on where this sound came from, and what they would end up doing next. The next few albums churned out a few great singles, “3WW” from RELAXER, and “Hunger Of The Pine” from This Is All Yours are personal highlights, but overall the LPs never quite reached the same level of cohesion that the debut did. That doesn’t mean the band have lost all of their charm though. The amount of off the wall ideas that you can squeeze into a series of albums over a decade, and still come out with something that sounds, ultimately, like an Alt-J album… is astounding. The pure creativity has always been the one thing you can rely on.

The band from Cardiff are celebrating their latest string of 10th anniversaries, as their third and fourth albums pass the special milestone. Romance is Boring and Hello Sadness was released in 2010 and 2011 respectively, and the band are celebrating by producing limited vinyl reissues of both, alongside a number of other treats for dedicated fans.

The Romance is Boring reissue was first announced back in 2019 and will be pressed on gold vinyl, with only 1,500 copies available for fans. A special digital download card will also be accompanying it, containing their 2010 four-song EP All’s Well that Ends. Pre-orders (which can be made on the band’s website here) will also get you a special copy of ‘The Universe Replied’: An Oral History of Romance is Boring, a 35,000-word zine giving interviews with past and current members talking about the process of making the album and touring it.

As for the Hello Sadness reissue, it will be accompanied by new artwork and will be pressed on transparent blue vinyl, with only 1,000 copies being made. The reissues are due next February 18th courtesy of Arts & Crafts. A band statement concerning the reissues said “Since its original release the band’s membership has changed, beloved venues have closed, we are all far older and more jaded. But Hello Sadness still hurts. ‘The Black Bird, The Dark Slope’ swirls desperately, ‘Every Defeat a Divorce (Three Lions)’ serves as a reminder of the dust gathering thicker in the England men’s football team’s trophy cabinet, and we, Los Campesinos!’s ‘sad eyed children’, still hang on their every word.”

The band’s never been shy of showing their sentimental side for past works, having done reissues for the tenth anniversary of their first two albums back in 2018, for 2008’s Hold on Now, Youngster… and We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed. This was accompanied by a two-week tour. Last year they celebrated the anniversary of Romance is Boring with a reissue on Valentine’s Day, as well as two London concerts where they played the album all the way through. Also, the release of their latest EP back in May, Whole Damn Body, featured songs recorded around the time of Hello Sadness, seeing the band continuing to make this into an event for the fans.

To help fans eager to join them live to celebrate, last September they announced three dates where they would be playing around the UK, seeing Cardiff, London and Leeds from the 13th to the 15th of December. Suffice to say, the band seem to be on a roll at the moment. And fans have plenty more to look forward to, with lead vocalist Gareth Paisey admitting they were working on a new album. Also, the tenth anniversary of their fifth album No Blues (2013) is coming up in a couple of years, so it seems they won’t be short of things to celebrate just yet. So if you want a bit of the action, better get ordering now!

Sheffield’s contamporary metalcore flagmen While She Sleeps are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their seminal EP The North Stands For Nothing with an exclusive pressing of the original vinyl. The 8-track EP from 2010 holds a fundamental place in the band’s career, establishing them as one of the most exciting and promising English bands at the time, shaping their unique blend of heavy and melodic hardcore, and paving the way to the four Top 40 albums that followed ever since.

The anniversary repressing was launched on 1st January on limited 600 copies of the gold and red splatter vinyl, with one side etched with handwritten lyrics. Originally available on the While She Sleeps’ official website, the LPs sold out immediately but you can keep checking the band’s social media channels in case more copies are ordered due to popular demand.

The North Stands For Nothing is the third EP in the band’s career following their first steps with And This Is Just The Start (2006) and Split with the Andwhitestars (2009), and the one to transform While She Sleeps from a hobbie and side project into a full-time music act. The EP was recorded between January and April 2010 in their home studio ‘The Barn’ in Sheffield, with mastering by Tim Turan from Turan Audio in Oxford, and officially released on 26 July through Small Time Recordings.

The North Stands For Nothing was almost entirely a self-made project produced by guitarist Mat Welsh with composition, arrangement, lyrics and artwork all done by the band. The EP featured While She Sleeps’ first two music videos of the monumental tracks ‘Crows‘ and ‘Hearts Aside Our Horses‘, fan favourites to this day and a highlight of any of the band’s energetic concerts.

With the addition of vocalist Lawrence Taylor the year before and ever since beginning to work on The North Stands For Nothing, the band has maintained its original line-up consisting of the founding members Mat Welsh (rhythm guitar), Aaran McKenzie (bass), Sean Long (lead guitar) and Adam Savage (drums). Heavily toured and promoted, the EP paved the way for the Sheffield quintet to becoming one of the most influential and sought-after acts in the European contemporary metalcore scene.

Earlier in 2020, in response to the widespread criticism of devaluation of music by streaming platforms and record labels, in addition to the difficulties imposed on music acts due to the COVID-19 ongoing restrictions, While She Sleeps made a stand and launched their innovative sustainable business model. Based around the Patreon public support platform, the band established the Sleeps Society virtual club, revolving around four tiers of monthly membership granting their followers a wide range of benefits and exclusive content. Since its inception on 15 October 2020 and following the update two weeks later, While She Sleeps have more than passed their initial goal of 500 members, with the highest paid ‘Revolution’ tier all sold out and currently standing at 2071 total members and almost 142 unique posts

Alongside the society launch, the metalcore heavyweights debuted the title single ‘Sleeps Society‘ as their first and only release for 2020. Following the standalone track ‘Fakers Plague‘ from December 2019, these are the only two songs since the release of their fourth album So What? in March 2019. While She Sleeps have confirmed they are currently working on their fifth record, also called Sleeps Society and set for premiere on 16 April 2021, done entirely with their fans’ and members’ support.

However, the organisers of the festival have said they feel comfortable announcing that events can run in 2021 after the beginning of the roll out of a mass vaccination programme, which they say can be used in conjunction with social distancing plans they have already devised in the summer to ensure that the events can take place in the summer of 2021.

The first of these events will take place on the 9th and 10th of July 2021 and the second will be on August 12th, 13th and 14th. While we don’t have a lineup yet, tickets are now available. There will be a mixture of 1,500 general and family tickets have been made available for the first weekend, organisers have said they hope they can scale up to 3,000 in the coming months. The second event in August will initially only sell 500 tickets, this is to accommodate those who had tickets to the 2020 festival and will be carrying over their ticket to the new dates.

Director of Stendhal Festival, Ross Park Hill spoke about the news in a statement saying; “It’s been a really tough year, we don’t have to tell anybody that because every one has been in somewhat of the same boat. That said, the entertainment and events industry have probably seen the biggest hits brought on by the pandemic, so we are quite simply delighted to have been able to navigate our way through 2020 and still be in a position to run events next year.”

He then went on to say; “I’d like to take the opportunity to again publicly thank those patrons who rolled over their tickets from 2020 to 2021, they are a one of the main reasons we survived 2020 and are in a position to re-launch the festival in 2021.”

“In that vain I’d also like to thank all the organisations that have supported us through the pandemic including Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Help Musicians NI and The Arts Council of Northern Ireland. We are so excited by the prospect of welcoming people back to the farm and we can’t wait to be able to once again deliver all the music, arts and creativity that Stendhal is known for. We guarantee it will be worth the wait.”

The organisers of Stendhal Festival tried to organise the first ever socially distanced music festival in August called Unlocked, which would have been a series of weekends that would have showcased artists from the island of Ireland, while adhering to the social distancing guidelines. Unfortunately, the event also had to be cancelled because of an rise in cases in Northern Ireland.
