Iranian Actress Golshifteh Farahani who has been exiled from Iran since 2009 after appearing in an American movie, joined Coldplay on stage to sing the song in Farsi at this concert. This concert was broadcast live to 80 different countries, as lead singer introduced the song he said “Maybe you see on the news right now that there are so many places where people are not able to gather like this and be free to be themselves” he continued to say “Whether that’s to listen to what they want to listen to, to wear what they want to wear, to think what they want to think, to love who they want to love and particularly at the moment this is very clear in Iran.”

The Coldplay frontman also acknowledged the fact that the show was being broadcast to thousands of people and decide to say a few words “We would like to do something to show that we support all the women and everybody fighting for freedom in Iran and everywhere in fact.” He also continued to say “Now this song is in Farsi, so I can’t really sing it, but were going to sing it together and we send love from Buenos Aires”

Masha Amini the 22-year-old woman who lost her life after being arrested by the country’s well renown “morality police’, for wearing her hijab too loosely. Amini was in a three-day coma and eventually died which sparked national and international protests. The punishment in Iran for being seen without a headscarf can include flogging as well as a fine or prison sentencing. Amini was originally supposed to be held in a detention centre but ended up in Kasri Hospital where she later lost her life. Many women have taken it upon themselves to fight the “Morality Police” head on by protesting which has led to more violence and arrests towards women since the death of Amiri.

 In 2014 Edwards assisted the launch of the Queen’s Young leaders Programme and actively worked to raise awareness surrounding mental health, on one occasion opening up to Music Week “Anxiety comes over me at the most random times. I wanted to create awareness. As much music is my entry point, I feel a responsibility to talk about these other issues.” Edwards was extremely active in the bettering of young people’s mental health, collaborating with the mental health charity CALM.

 As the unfortunate news surfaced concerning his death on the 20^th  February 2022 many artists and public figures came forward, to express their sadness and gratitude to his contributions. Lady Leshurr, the Birmingham native musician, who had worked closely with Edwards said it was “heart-breaking” to hear the news, as he “gave opportunity after opportunity to showcase talent from Brum to London. We need to keep his name alive.” 

King Charles III the founder of The Princes Trust stated, “His work in music but also as an ambassador for a new generation, including his work for The Princes Trust, were an inspiration to so many.” Brenda Edwards plans to keep making young people feel empowered by continuing her son’s legacy. The Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust held a fundraising event and raised over 100,000. The gala was hosted by Terry Crews and featured performances from Ed Sheeran, Jessie Ware and Max Cyrus along with a surprise performance from Lewis Capaldi.

As Brenda speaks on the impact of supporting the youth she says, “I think I can sum it up in two words- self-belief- and that’s what this is all about.” She recounts an instance where Jamal had reiterated, she should have self-belief when she was previously battling cancer, as she said he told her “Mommy have some self-belief” she continued to say “- and that’s what we need to get out of young people for them to remember, because the young people are the future of tomorrow and it’s important for me to give them that platform so they can feel empowered.” The Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust is currently developing a scholarship programme and back to work scheme for young people facing homelessness in partnership with Centrepoint the leading youth homelessness charity in the UK.

Naughty Boy was awarded a £5,000 grant in 2005 to help him with his plans to pursue music. He set up a music studio in his parent’s garden shed, with the money he was granted he began embarking on his creative pursuit. Naughty Boy whose legal name is Shadid Khan spoke to Good Morning Britain and spoke about the effect growing up in a council estate had on his mindset. He felt as if no one would “shine a light” on the talents he acquired until the grant was given to him.

Khan also said during his interview at Good morning Britain  “I think at the time when I had the Prince’s Trust grant it gave me confidence. It made me think you know what? There’s someone who thinks I’ve got a chance at this. And that someone was our now King Charles, and I’m forever grateful for that”. Khan has collaborated with artists such as Jennifer Hudson, Ed Sheeran, Bastille, Wiz Khalifa, and many more big artists. Following his success, he later became an ambassador for the British Asian Trust.

This trust was also founded by King Charles in 2007 and Khan performed for him on several occasions, including one memorable time at Buckingham Palace. Touching on the newly appointed King Charles he says “I’ve seen how he is with crowds, shaking everyone’s hands and being very human- the best thing that has come out of this is that we’ve gained ourselves a peoples King, especially in a time like this, and a diverse king`’Although he is hopeful for the future with this “Diverse King” he expresses sympathy and sadness regarding the Queen by saying “It’s going to take a while to recover from the loss of the Queen because I was thinking this year’s Christmas message and that’s going to be weird, like every year of my life I’ve seen the Queen at Christmas who would deliver a beautiful message- so it’s a transition but I think as a nation, we’ll get there”

Roxy Music are one of the most influential groups within rock, so this return is well anticipated. The band members who will be present for these performances will be, vocalist Bryan Ferry, guitarist Phil Manzanera, saxophonist Andy McKay and drummer Paul Thompson.Original keyboardist Brian Eno who left the group in 1973 will not be included. Eno has previously refrained from taking part in previous reunions. Guitarist Phil Manzanera stated on one occasion that he could understand why Brian declines returning to perform together as he said “What would he do for the songs he wasn’t on? Just hang around? It would be a bit beneath him”. Eno back in 2012 corroborated this statement by expressing “It’s simply not in my temperament to look back”

The group announced today that extra tickets for the gig at the 02 London, have been added to allow more people to experience this reunion for themselves. Purchase for these tickets will be available here on Friday September 16^th.Singer-songwriter Nilüer Yanya is the support act that has been announced to be opening all three UK shows. Yanya has previously supported Adele and Sam Fender throughout the summer.

Roxy Music is reissuing all eight of their studio albums this year and are rumoured to be taking on the legendary Glastonbury in 2023.

Last Friday a source from the Glastonbury Site eFestivals tweeted “I’m hearing that Roxy Music will do the legends” slot at next year’s Glastonbury. As well as this tweet Roxy have been listed as TBC (to be confirmed) on the eFestivals’ Glasto ’23 line up page. The legends set usually is reserved for legendary influential acts which tend to be highly anticipated acts. Glastonbury 2023 is due to take place during June 21 and June 25, tickets will go on sale next month.

Roxy is currently in the US wrapping up shows before coming to the UK to continue the tour. Manzanera expressed to Consequence last month “You never know when you get to the stage in one’s trajectory whether it’s going to be the last time- I’m gonna have the most fun possible” in response to addressing his feelings regarding the reunion.

As many users had managed to slow the video down, they had collectively come to an agreement that this alleged incident did indeed not happen, but it was furtherdebated and discussed. The video in question does show Chris stop clapping and looking down at his laps to observe where spit was said to have fallen to then just laugh and smile at Harry.

As Harry performed at his first largely anticipated concert at Madison Square Gardens since the screening of his first feature film, he managed to poke fun at the situation saying “It is wonderful, wonderful to be back n New York. I just popped very quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine. But fret not, we’re back!”

Styles previously regarding this situation had previously said “This is a ridiculous story – a complete fabrication and result of an odd illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows foolish speculation.” As the rumours were put to bed Styles addressed the unfortunate current news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Styles joined in on paying tributes to the late queen, who died on Thursday 8^th September.  Styles initiated a round of applause for the late Queen during his show at the Madison Square Garden. Styles expressed “From my homeland, there was some very sad news today, the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Please join me in a round of applause for 70 years of service” before thanking the audience for their support. Styles is among one of the many musicians to publicly pay their respects.

Music industry organisations such as Music Venue Trust, Night Time Industries Association, UK Music and LIVE have emphasized the urgent need for new measures to be put in place, to save the arts and entertainment industry amidst the energy crisis. As the newly elected prime minister Liz Truss was appointed, along her list of challenges she plans to tackle, she stated that she planned to call for a reinstatement of VAT cuts for events and hospitality that were in place during the COVID pandemic.

Chief executive of UK Music Jamie Njoku-Goodwin congratulated Truss publicly on her victory before urging Truss to follow procedures the government had in place during the pandemic, which provided aid to the entertainment and hospitality industries. He stated “Congratulations to Liz Truss. During the campaign, Liz Truss rightfully talked about the need to tackle the crippling cost of living – and she must now deliver on that commitment immediately. Without urgent action to help venues, studios and other music businesses, there is a real risk that many will go to the wall”

Goodwin continued to suggest a solution to the impending crisis regarding the industry, which is that “the government should make a significant cut to VAT from its current 20% rate to 5%- just as it did during the pandemic”.

As energy costs rise and the cost of living increasing rapidly it comes as no surprise that music companies that narrowly survived COVID are fearful they will not be as lucky during this crisis. The impending fear clouds over the industry as they dread of permanent closures to venues, clubs and recording venues within the next few months.

Music organisation LIVE is also joining in demanding action to be made, suggesting reintroducing the HMRC Time to Pay scheme as well as regulations to be put in place to help minimise energy usage.

CEO of NTIA Michael Kill is also calling on the government to act, as well as suggesting that Truss takes responsibility for the energy crisis. By putting energy caps for businesses that will be affected highly by rising fuel costs this will lessen the impact. Kill emphasises “It is now vital that the new prime minister takes this opportunity to be decisive in tackling the cost inflation crisis, over the coming days, by reducing VAT across the board, extending business rates relief and implementing an energy cap for small medium enterprise businesses”

This statement was also supported by Music Venue Trust’s Mark Dayvd who stated he had personally witnessed a grassroots music venue’s energy bill increase by £134,000.

Goodwin expressed with urgency that “Without urgent support, there is a real chance that the billions keeping businesses and venues afloat during the pandemic will be wasted and that would be a tragedy.“
