— NME (@NME) November 23, 2017

The Grammy award winning singer-songwriter and producer released Melodrama this year on June 16th, through Republic Records, and it is her second studio album. After a three-year hiatus and a begging from her huge world-wide fan base for new music, Lorde, real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor, punched us in the face with her lead single and absolute pop banger ‘Green Light’.

Labelled as one of Time’s most influential teenagers in the world, this youngsters music hits the genre of ‘indietronica’, pop and RnB influence on the head. NME describe the album as “regret-drenched break-up album that waves a magic wand at pain and transforms it into pure pop magic. From house-influenced lead single ‘Green Light’ to the deliciously overwrought ‘Supercut’, Melodrama gives you pause to reflect on the past even as it takes your hand and leads you to the dancefloor.”

Lorde couldn’t have got the title ‘Melodrama’ more right for the vision she had created in her musical and poetry filled genius mind. The definition for this word is “a sensational dramatic piece with exaggerated characters and exciting events intended to appeal to the emotions”, and that’s exactly what it feels like.

Melodrama started taking shape after her breakup from her long-time boyfriend James Lowe in 2015, and embarking on single life as a young women, feeling the light and dark of that time. She called upon sought after producer and guitarist of the band FUN, Jack Antonoff, and they worked together in the cosy recording space of Antonoff’s home studio in his Brooklyn apartment.

When speaking to the New York Times, Ella explained her thoughts of “What was it like to be on a dance floor, to desire someone else on it and to act on this desire? How did it feel to wake up the next morning?” She also went onto say “With a party, there’s that moment where a great song comes on and you’re ecstatic,” she explained, “and then there’s that moment later on where you’re alone in the bathroom, looking in the mirror, you don’t think you look good, and you start feeling horrible.”

Ella emphasized that Melodrama wasn’t a “breakup album.” Instead, she said, “it’s a record about being alone. The good parts and the bad parts.”

The album peaked at No.5 in the UK album charts, and debuted at number one in New Zealand and Australia, as well as topping the US Billboard 200. The record that deals with themes of heartbreak and solitude featured singles such as ‘Green Light’, that hit No.1 in the UK singles charts, ‘Perfect Places’ and the self-reflective heart wrenching ‘Liability’.

Lorde is still in the middle of her Melodrama world tour, that ends with her appearing at the All Points East Festival in London on May 26th.

American band Pinegrove have cancelled a run of their North American tour dates following Front man Evan Stephens Hall’s “sexual coercion” accusations made against him.

Evan addressed these allegations in a post on their groups Facebook page on Tuesday (Nov 21) with a lengthy statement. The accuser has been unnamed, yet Evan still delves into the details of his “convoluted, heavy, emotional” relationship with this person, to which he claimed “Still, I am coming to terms with the fact that I monumentally misread the situation. I am trying earnestly to follow this line as deeply as it goes to reflect on all of the things I could have done, and can do, better.”

The emo-country-rock singer also went onto say “While it was by no means a simple relationship, it was sustained tenderly and I believed sincerely that it was mutual. I absolutely never threatened her, I never leveraged anything against her. I believed all of our decisions to be based in love.”

He continues “I should have more actively acknowledged my position of power as a public figure, and also as a man,” he continued. “I have always tried to approach all of my relationships under the premise of equality, but I see now more clearly that the inherent privilege of my gender and the accumulated privilege of being a recognized performer most certainly impacted this interaction.”

Hall went on to apologize for viewing his fans as potential sexual partners and added that he has been in therapy since November 2015. He admits that he had “been flirtatious with fans and on a few occasions been intimate with people that I’ve met on tour,” saying that “I could sense who from the crowd would be interested in sleeping with me based on how they watched me perform. This comment applies such a dark layer to my interactions with people after our sets.”
You can read the full statement here:

a message from evan:https://t.co/TdDpcnCZX3

The statement ends with telling the reader the band would be taking some time off as well as cancelling the tour “in an effort to take time to make positive changes in my life and out of respect for what she is going through.”

The core members of Pinegrove consist of Evan Stephens Hall (vocals, guitar) and Zack Levine (vocals, drums) who are both childhood friends and have been playing music together for a very long time. It was Zack’s little brother Nick who played guitar that helped to officially from Pinegrove, but he no longer is in the band. Thus came Sam Skinner (guitar) and Adan Carlo Feliciano (bass) and Nandi Rose Pluckett (vocals, percussion, keyboard) who is the only woman in the band, and a college friend of Evan.

After a run of EP releases, it was in October 2015 that Pinegrove were signed to Run for Cover Records. A debut album followed this in February 2016 titled Cardinal. Pinegrove had been touring in support of this release.

The pop-punk band Knuckle Puck have decided to cancel their upcoming tour of Mainland Europe and the United Kingdom due to mental health. Lead vocalist Joe Taylor, along with the rest of the band have shared they feel the need to focus on mental well-being and “begin seeking professional help” to work through these feelings.

This news came after the American band released a statement on Monday from all of their forms of social media, addressed by “Joe Taylor and Knuckle Puck”. Joe is the lead vocalist of the band, which also consists of lead guitarist Kevin Maida, drummer John Siorek, rhythm guitarist Nick Casasanto and bassist Ryan Rumchaks.

This important announcement touches on the recent allegations that seem to be surfacing more within the pop-punk and rock community at the moment. As the statement reads “The past few weeks have been incredibly challenging for many in our community, including myself.” It also goes on to say “We are going through an incredibly trying time in our music community. It is more apparent now than ever that the space any band occupies, including my own, should be a safe space for anyone and everyone.”

The statement also includes how this recent news has resurfaced childhood memories for Taylor, and he needs professional help at home to help with what he has experienced and to be the best person he can. They are asking for fans’ understanding of the situation, and appreciate all the support.

You can read the full statement below:

Knuckle Puck were due to begin the tour on November 26th of this year in Hasselt, Belgium, along with fellow rock bands Tiny Moving Parts and Movements. Another supporting act, Maryland’s Have Mercy, dropped off the tour last week, citing similar mental health circumstances.

Previously, similar pop-punk bands have had sexual assault and misconduct allegations made against them resulting to online protests and even being kicked off shows. Back in December of 2014, Jake McElfresh – otherwise known as Front Porch Step – came under a slew of allegations of sexual assault against girls as young as 13 years-old. The very popular Neck Deep who once shared a tour with Knuckle Puck also faced allegations made against the whole band but mainly member Lloyd Roberts, who was then forced to leave. Recently we have seen emo-rock Brand New as well as Nothing But Thieves also face allegations.

AC/DC guitarist and co-founder Malcolm Young has died aged 64. The Australian peacefully passed away after his long battle with dementia today (Saturday 18) alongside his family.

The musician who co-founded Australian heavy rock legends AC/DC in 1973 with brother Angus Young, had been suffering with dementia for the past three years, which was the reason for retirement from the rock and roll life.

Malcolm Young, like his older brother George and younger brother Angus, was born in Glasgow, Scotland before the whole Young family emigrated to Sydney, Australia in the early Sixties. It was Malcolm, along with Angus, who created AC/DC, famous for tracks such as ‘Highway to Hell’, ‘You Shook Me All Night’ and ‘Thunderstruck’. Young brought to the band his powerful rhythm guitar riffs, and served as the band’s main creative force, and will certainly be remembered by the music world.

Three Young brothers have been part of AC/DC’s history, Malcolm, Producer George Young who died in October at age 70, and Angus. When Rolling Stone asked the Young brothers in 2008, Who runs AC/DC?,” Malcolm replied, “We both do, because we were there from the start.” ACDC have a ton of success’ under their belt, with over 110 million albums sold, and the best-selling Australian act of all time.

AC/DC released a statement from their Facebook page today that read:
“Today it is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young. Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC. With enormous dedication and commitment, he was the driving force behind the band. As a guitarist, songwriter and visionary he was a perfectionist and a unique man. He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted. He took great pride in all that he endeavored. His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed.”

Angus Young added, “As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special. He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever. Malcolm, job well done.”

Friends and many fans of the musician have taken to social media to pay their tributes.

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood said it was a sad loss, “Malcolm was a lovely guy and will be really missed,” he wrote.

Tom Morello, of the US band Rage Against the Machine, tweeted his thanks to the “#1 greatest rhythm guitarist”.

Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, who regarded Malcolm as one of rock’s greatest rhythm guitarists, tweeted Saturday following Young’s death, “I have to go…I am losing it that Malcolm is gone. I hate this…”

After an email confirmation from his publicist, Pitchfork confirm emo rapper Lil Peep has died. The young rising star was born as Gustav Åhr in Pensylvania, and was sadly only 21 years old.

The cause of death is said to be a drug overdose, which Lil Peep brought up through out his music in lyrics spiraling around his troubles with depression and prescription medications. It was only this year he began his rise to fame after releasing his debut album named Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1 in August. The sound of Lil Peep fuses rap and hip hop styles with a emo-punk edge and highly emotional lyrics, crossing over both genres perfectly. Pitchfork dubbed him “the future of emo” back in January.

The Guardian has reported that Lil Peep’s manager Adam Grandmaison confirmed the rapper was taken to hospital following a drug overdose which has been confirmed by The Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner according to Pitchfork. It will be six to eight weeks for toxicology results to determine a definitive cause of death.

In a released statement, Sarah Stennett, CEO of Lil Peep’s team at First Access Entertainment said: “I am shocked and heartbroken. I do not believe Peep wanted to die, this is so tragic. He had big goals and dreams for the future which he had shared with me, his team, his family and his friends. He was highly intelligent, hugely creative, massively charismatic, gentle and charming. He had huge ambition and his career was flourishing.”

She went onto mention that she has spoken with Peeps mother, who wanted Sarah to “convey that she is very, very proud of him and everything he was able to achieve in his short life. She is truly grateful to the fans and the people who have supported and loved him.”

When speaking to Pitchfork, Gustav Åhr explained “I suffer from depression and some days I wake up and I’m like, Fuck, I wish I didn’t wake up, I don’t express that side of myself on social media. That’s the side of myself that I express through music. That’s my channel for letting all that shit out.”

A flood of fellow musicians and industry professionals are paying their tributes to the young rapper on social media including the UK’s own rock expert BBC Radio 1’s Daniel P Carter, who championed a lot of Lil Peeps music and spoke very highly about his style of music. He tweeted: “Terrible, woke up to the news about Peep. Rest in power.”

The newly popular DJ Marshmallo had made it aware that he was working closely with Lil Peep to collaborate on a track just last week. He also tweeted: “I can’t even believe this. We were just talking last week about working on a song together and now you’re gone. You will be missed, R.I.P. @Lilpeep,”

Musicians such as Lil B and Fall out Boys Pete Wentz are also bringing to attention the positives that can now be brought forward and spoke about, with motivation from this tragedy. Pete tweeted: “We have to talk about mental health in open way. Have to help each other we all have struggles, none of this is easy.” Lil B also shared a memory by tweeting: “I remember Lil peep telling me he is against the sexual abuse of women and people in the music industry… I will continue to push his vision thank you”.

Every pop punk and rock fans dream festival Slam Dunk has just announced some big names for next year. Earlier today the word was released that Arizona Rock Band Jimmy Eat World will be headlining the annual festival among a wave of more alternative acts.

This will be the band’s debut appearance at Slam Dunk and they will be celebrating their 25th anniversary together. The festival is held in three separate locations over the weekend of May 26th, 27th and 28th, on the Spring Bank Holiday. Fans get a choice whether to attend in the North of England in Leeds (26th), the Midlands in Birmingham (28th) or South in Hertfordshire (27th), which will be at new venue this year in Hatfield. The punk heavy party is held over one day and is host to eight stages.

We got to know another 5 acts would be joining Jimmy Eat world also, including Taking Back Sunday who’s set will be their third appearance at Slam Dunk over the years, and the emo-heavy Sleeping With Sirens. Pop punk favourites Four Year Strong, Trash Boat and State Champs were also revealed to complete the first batch announced.

THE #SDF18 FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT IS HERE pic.twitter.com/1o7fzZlpjQ

The festival hits the mark of its twelfth year and aims to share the biggest and most upcoming acts in emo, rock and pop punk. It is constantly attracting a bigger crowd and the change of venues in the South is evidence to this. When speaking to The Independent, festival director Ben Ray said: “We are sad to leave the University however the event was selling out months in advance so we knew we had to move it and make it bigger due to demand from the fans.”

Jimmy Eat world formed way back in 1993 and are known to be one of the best and well respected bands of the pop-rock scenes, with nine studio albums under their belt. Their ninth release last year was named Integrity Blues and became the band’s highest charting release in the UK, reaching number 21 on the UK Albums Chart. They were seen this summer at Reading and Leeds Festival on the main stage, so if you missed that it may be important to know as a UK fan that Slam Dunk will be their only UK festival appearance in 2018.

You can get a ticket from Friday November 17th at 9am, and will cost you £49 for the day, or if you attend the infamous after party and want a chance to meet some band members, you can pay the slightly higher price of £55. Get tickets here.

School girl Freya McDonald was chosen to play guitar on stage with Wolf Alice at the weekend in Glasgow as part of their current UK tour.

On November 11th Wolf Alice played at the city’s Barrowland’s venue, where the 16 year-old got the chance to shred guitar to one of the bands biggest hits ‘Mona Lisa Smile’ to around 2,000 people.

Front woman of the band Ellie Roswell took to Twitter prior to the show calling all females to put themselves forward to join her on stage to play. She wrote: “Any gals wanna play my guitar part in moaning Lisa smile at the Barrowlands tomo so I can stomp around on stage? Serious question.”

Freya’s friend tagged her in the tweet while they were at school and after some persuasion from her family too, Freya decided to send in a video of her strumming along to the track in her bedroom. Within the hour Ellie contacted Freya asking if she was available to come for a sound check.

I went to tell my mum and sisters, we were freaking out – it was crazy,” she said. The bedroom only player headed down to the Glasgow venue to have a practice and meet all the band before the show. Freya said “There were like 2,000 people there and I loved coming off stage with all these random people coming up to me, it was so surreal,” she said.

You can see the footage of Freya with the band on stage here.

The British alternative rock band recently released Visions Of A Life in September, featuring hits such as ‘Yuk Foo’, Don’t Delete The Kisses’ and ‘Beautifully Unconventional’. This is their second studio album and it debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart. NME called it the album of the year and claimed that “with Visions of a Life Wolf Alice are removing any doubt about their status in the UK music scene. Best band in Britain? 100 per cent.” Wolf Alice are continuing on with their tour, and are definitely making sure it’s a memorable one.

Brand New have announced the cancellation of their upcoming UK tour, following the allegations made against front man Jesse Lacey of sexual assault against a minor.

Jesse Lacey the 39-year-old of punk rock band Brand New was alleged to have solicited nude photos from a woman named Nicole Elizabeth Garey when she was just 15 and he was 24 years old. This came from the victims Facebook, that was then widely shared online.

Lacey has since issued a lengthy statement responding to the claims ahead of their scheduled European show dates, addressing the fact he had “developed a dependent and addictive relationship with sex” early in his life, which led to a “consistent and terrible problem.” He wrote that he has sought professional help for his issues after being a ‘habitual cheater’ in relationships and using his ‘power’ as a musician with girls.

He also wrote “I apologize for the hurt I have caused, and hope to be able to take the correct actions to earn forgiveness and trust.”

This statement doesn’t respond specifically to the allegations from the individual who told the world that Lacey “manipulated the hell out of me, demanded specific poses/settings/clothing, demeaned me, and made it clear that my sexuality was the only thing I had to offer.”

It’s now following this that the band have decided to post-pone their upcoming UK and Ireland dates, though it seems unlikely to be rescheduled. They told the world from their Facebook page today (13/11/2017), in which they wrote: “Due to the events of the last few days, Brand New will be postponing its upcoming three shows in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Ticket refunds will be accepted at the original point of purchase.”

Support group Martha immediately pulled out of the tour, with touring member Kevin Devine also resigning.

Brand New were due to play the following venues:

NOVEMBER
16 DUBLIN Olympia Theatre
18 LONDON O2 Academy Brixton
19 GLASGOW O2 Academy

The band had already hinted at how long they have left together before there impending break up at a recent live show. Brand New told the world they are planning to split up when they released new merchandise on their online shops, with a host of t-shirts featuring the dates 2000-2018, which confirms their planned time to stay together. At a live show Jesse Lacy told the fans in the room, “We’re gonna be a band for about 14 more months, so thank you so much for being here tonight.”

These recent events could bring the band to have a closer end date.

Earlier this week front man Matty Healy of the British indie-pop band The 1975, took to Twitter to tell fans that there could be a potential EP release on the cards.

Matty hinted that this possible new music was to arrive before the year is over, and is expected to come out ahead of the bands upcoming third album Music For Cars, which was announced back in April of this year. The new EP announcement came from Healy himself on Twitter after he posted “Okay – one more EP”, sending fan speculation into overdrive.

Okay – one more EP

— matty (@Truman_Black) November 5, 2017

Healy went even further and gave it a name, tweeting “What a shame – The Ep”.

What A Shame – The EP — matty (@Truman_Black) November 6, 2017

However, this dream of soon to come music was shattered for 1975 fans, after this long rumored EP is now confirmed to be pushed back to next year in 2018. This all came to the surface when a fan replied to a tweet Healy made last year in which he promised new music in 2017, tagging the band’s manager Jamie Osborne, of Dirty Hit Records.

@jamieoborne your boy is a liar — Hope. (@HopeNaisbitt) November 2, 2017

Osborne replied, stating we needed to “Wait and see”.

Wait and see… x — Jamie Oborne (@jamieoborne) November 3, 2017

This surged fans to plague Jamie with questions regarding the release, to which he decided to clear up the confusion of this mysterious release and responded with “So there is not going to be @the1975 EP in 2017. EP will be 2018. BUT you will get something that I personally love. Sorry but that’s all I can say right now. Oh, MFC is already sounding amazing. It will be worth the wait. Love you guys”.

So there is not going to be @the1975 EP in 2017. EP will be 2018.
— Jamie Oborne (@jamieoborne) November 9, 2017

So now not all is lost, as now we are being promised “something” before the year is out regardless. Plus, this is just an extra slice to keep us going while we patiently wait for their third album, which is named after one of their previous EP’s, and is stated to be a “end of an era” for the band. The Music For Cars title was already used by the band for their third EP, which was released in March 2013 and featured “Anobrain,” “Chocolate,” “HNSCC,” “Head.Cars.Bending” and “Me.”

When speaking to NME about the title, Healy revealed “We’re using it as the album title now because of how meta and self-referential everything has become in the world of The 1975, and Music For Cars was always my favourite title of everything we’d ever done, so it kinda made sense to wrap it up that way.”

This looks like it could be shaping to create the same sound it did in the very early stages of The 1975, as earlier this month, the band released a remastered version of ‘Milk’, which was hidden in their song ‘You’.
