“I’m happy that our team were able to find this track,” said guitarist Brian May, “After all these years, it’s great to hear all four of us, yes, Deacy is there too, working in the studio on a great song idea which never quite got completed… until now.” The album will not only feature this lost track but it will also include some of the band’s conversations in studios in London and Montreux, Switzerland.“It was kind of hiding in plain sight,” May continued, “We looked at it many times and thought, oh, no, we can’t really rescue that. But, in fact, we went in there again and our wonderful engineering team went, ok, we can do this and this. It’s kind of stitching bits together.”

Roger Taylor, Queen’s drummer, went on to say that they had “kind of forgotten about this track,” but described the song as “wonderful, a real discovery. It’s a very passionate piece.” This will mark the first new song featuring Freddie Mercury since the Queen Forever album which was released in 2014. It featured three unheard tracks: ‘Love Kills’, ‘Let Me In Your Heart Again’, and ‘There Must Be More to Life Than This’.

The original release of The Miracle went to number one in the UK, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland and received critical acclaim with Rolling Stone saying: “The Miracle is a showcase for Freddie Mercury and his love of sweeping, quasi-operatic vocals. And indeed, Mercury – especially on the title track – has never sounded better…”

Queen formed in 1970 and went on to be one of the biggest stadium rock bands in the world. Their 1981 Greatest Hits album is the best-selling album in the UK and has been certified nine times platinum in the US. The band comprised of Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals) and John Deacon (bass). Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991 from AIDs-related complications. He performed for the final time with Queen at Knebworth in 1986. Today, Roger Taylor and Brian May still perform as Queen with Adam Lambert on vocals.

Speaking with NME, the duo (Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar) explained their creative process and how ‘Water’ came to be. “Whatever we demo with, is almost never what we finish with,” McBriar said.“There was no outright idea when we started, but the original ‘Waterfall’ was born out of experimentation with an instrument called the MEGAfm,” they said, “It’s a new synth but has chips inside which formed the sounds of the SEGA Megadrive/Genesis games consoles. Weirdly it got more computer game sounding when we developed it into ‘Water’, speeding up and slowing down the lead line and LFOs to give that classic low-bit sound effect.” 

The pair have once again teamed up with Clara La San features on Isles tracks ‘Saku’ and ‘X’. “I just feel like Clara nails a little bit of every single one of them without being too much. She’s not too sugary, she’s not too lamenting, it’s sort of everything in between,” McBriar said. “Clara’s a machine, she’s honestly insane. It’s hard to believe that we get vocals from her sometimes and I’m like, ‘How was this not a year of hard work back and forth?’ She just sometimes sends it over and I’m like, ‘That’s perfect’.”

Despite this new single release, the pair don’t want fans to get too excited about a third album coming so soon. Ferguson has said that they are enjoying being more “fluid” with their production, outside of the structure of an album and McBriar echoed his comments saying: “Having done two [albums], it’s been amazing but we really craved that freedom of smaller bits of work.” “We want to spend a few years experimenting, changing up a lot, doing a lot of singles, and we’d like to be a bit more adventurous with some of the sound palettes and the layouts, and thinking about stuff a bit more abstract, and then inform that into a new album”

Bicep are heading off to Europe for an arena tour this month, stopping in the UK for two shows at London’s Alexandra Palace in early December. Both dates are sold out.

Earlier this year the band announced they would be going on tour with American metalcore bands, August Burns Red and Miss May I. They will be kicking off their UK/European Tour later this month in Brighton. They will be playing 11 dates in the UK finishing up at the iconic Electric Ballroom in London.

Since then, Fred has shared new music featuring Swedish House Mafia and Future ‘Turn Out the Lights Again..’ and ‘I. Jordan (‘Admit It (U Don’t Want 2)’. His Boiler Room set in July 2022 received critical acclaim and fans have been long awaiting his follow-up. “I really truly really really wanna say thank you so so much for all of the love on this @boilerroomtv” he wrote on Instagram reflecting on the performance, “I can’t tell you how much it means.”

Before the release of the new album, he shared clips on his Instagram of him sharing songs from Actual Life 3 with fans at his shows and to strangers on trains via AirDrop and filming their reactions. “Okayyyy SO I am so so really very VERY happy to say that Actual Life 3 will be out on October 28th!!!!! You can pre-order it today and the first song is out nowwwww!!” he said on Instagram. The post also revealed he will be playing shows across Europe alongside a hometown gig at his “favourite venue ever”, Brixton Academy. Tickets go on sale on Friday 23rd September but fans can get early access to tickets if they pre-order the album from the official store before 2 pm on Wednesday 20th September. “I really really can’t wait”, he said.

Despite his debut album being released in 2021, Fred had received notable acclaim working as a producer for some of the biggest recording artists today. He worked with Ed Sheeran on his fourth studio album, No.6 Collaborations Project, and is credited with writing and/or producing 12 of 15 of the tracks. His credited songs collectively held 14 weeks at Number 1 in the charts. Prior to this, he co-wrote ‘Shotgun’ with George Ezra which also reached number one, and worked with Demi Lovato, Clean Bandit and Rita Ora. He went on to win Producer of the Year at the 2020 Brit Awards and he still continues to write and produce songs for artists including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy and AJ Tracey.

Guests and nominees had already started to arrive at the London venue including Sam Fender and Little Simz who had been rehearsing their performances. The show was scheduled to be screened on BBC Four, however, the BBC’s regular programming was interrupted to focus on the declining health of Queen Elizabeth. The organisers had already axed the red carpet segment of the event and they were moments away from opening the show, until being forced to postpone as a mark of respect.“Tonights Mercury Prize event has been postponed at this time of great national sorrow. We know everyone involved in the Mercury Prize will understand,” the organisers said in a statement.

The nominees for this year’s Mercury Prize also included Self Esteem, Wet Leg, Harry Styles and Gwenno. Harry Styles was nominated for his critically acclaimed third solo album but was not due to attend as he is currently on tour in America. The ceremony was set to include performances from Jessie Buckley, Wet Leg, Nova Twins and bookies’ favourite to win, Self Esteem.

Self Esteem, real name Rebecca Taylor, had arrived at the event before the postponement was announced. Upon hearing the show would not be going ahead, she took to Twitter to seek help in donating the food and drink that had been prepared for the event. “If anyone near the Hammersmith Apollo can collect hot food and blast chill it please reply or dm me for more info. After much sharing, Under One Sky and Punjabi 1946 came in to freeze the food and distribute it to those who need it. “Ok we did it!!” she Tweeted, “@amritmaanldn is picking it up and getting it in a freezer to be distributed tomorrow!!! Thanks Jackie Joseph for your help. And thanks Twitter for the rts! Everyone hit up Amrit’s restaurant in cov garden asap. Love you all.”

The BBC Proms were also set to begin at 7.30 pm yesterday. With the announcement of the Queen’s death an hour earlier, they too decided to cancel as a mark of respect.

Eddie Vincent attended the 1970 concert and snuck a Kodak Brownie 8mm camera into the arena. “I had really great seats,” he told Classic Rock. “They were right behind the band. I had seats in the front row, right behind John Bonham’s kit. The only problem was that you couldn’t really see John because the gong was there, but he came around and chatted to us while they were doing the acoustic set.” He hid the camera under his jacket, and in the introduction to the now uploaded footage he says: “There weren’t any problems at the door back in those days.”

The camera was a wind-up that could only capture up to 30 seconds at a time but it has given fans previously unseen footage of the band performing ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’, ‘Thank You’, ‘What Is And What Should Never Be’, ‘Whole Lotta Love’, ‘Some Other Guy’ and ‘Lemon Song’. 

Vincent’s footage remained hidden away for 50 years before he contacted collector John Waters. Waters said: “The music needs to be out there. I know a lot of collectors and traders that don’t give their stuff away, and that’s a shame to me. Music’s to be shared, and today you need it to get away from the crazy world. And if this film brings a lot of people happiness, hey, we did a good job.” He oversaw the restoration process and another fan was able to match the footage to the audio from the Live on Blueberry Hill LP.

In the description of the recently uploaded Youtube video, Waters writes, “Old concert film is important and must be preserved! If you shot film in the past, traded and collected reels, or just bought them from the classifieds of rock magazines in the ’70s and ’80s, it’s important we save these.” He provides an email address for others who may be interested in restoring or sharing old footage. 

Speaking directly to his fans, Capaldi said: “I have been diagnosed with Tourette’s. I wanted to speak about it because I didn’t want people to think I was taking cocaine or something.” He described the situation as “new” and said, “I haven’t really learnt much about it.” He revealed he has had Botox on his shoulder to help stop it from moving and that he is “learning new ways to cope all the time.” When speaking on the diagnosis he went on to say: “When they told me, “We think you’ve got Tourette’s”, I was like, “Do you know what, that makes so much sense”. When I look back at my interviews from 2018 I can see that I’m doing it.”

According to the NHS, Tourette’s syndrome usually starts during childhood and the tics and other symptoms usually improve after several years and sometimes go away completely. Lewis revealed that his tic affects his shoulder. “My shoulder twitches when I am excited, happy, nervous, or stressed, it is something I am living with. It’s not as bad as it looks,” he said, “It comes and goes. Sometimes I can go months without doing it. I thought I had some horrible degenerative disease so I’ll take Tourette’s.”

Capaldi isn’t the only pop star to reveal a Tourette’s diagnosis in recent months. Billie Eilish opened up about living with the condition during an interview with David Letterman for Netflix. “If you film me for long enough, you’re going to see lots of tics,” she said. “I don’t care. It’s really weird, I haven’t talked about it at all.

Capaldi spoke about his diagnosis following sold-out two nights at London’s O2 Arena. During the show he announced he would be releasing a new single ‘Forget Me’ which is due out on 9th September. He treated fans to a snipped of the new track during his second show in London. Capaldi shot to fame after his single ‘Someone You Loved’ became the best-selling single of 2019 in the UK. In May 2020, the song had become the longest-running top 10 UK single of all time by a British artist. ‘Forget Me’ is Lewis’ first release since his debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent spent 10 weeks at the top of the UK charts.

Leading the nominations this year is rapper Dave with six nominations. He is nominated for track of the year twice for his hits ‘Starlight’ and ‘Clash’ featuring Stormzy. Both singles also received nominations for Video of the Year. After recently headlining Reading and Leeds, the 24-year-old is also nominated for Male Artist of the Year alongside Central Cee, Digga D and 2021’s Track of the Year winner, Tion Wayne.

Dave has met widespread critical acclaim since his debut album Psychodrama which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart back in 2019. It had the biggest first week of streams for a UK rap album and subsequently took home the 2020 Brit Award for Album of the Year and went on to win the Mercury Prize. His latest album, We’re All Alone in This Together is nominated for the GRM Rated Award for Album of the Year and faces competition from Little Simz, Fredo, Tion Wayne, M Huncho, Knucks and Kojey Radical. The Evening Standard described the album as a ‘masterpiece’ saying Dave is ‘the greatest rapper working in Britain today.”

Also leading the nominations is Little Simz who is featured in three categories. She’s up for Album of the Year with her Mercury Prize Nominated Sometimes I Might Be Introvert. AllMusic described the album as a “master class in modern songwriting with heaps of poise and a beating, soulful heart,” and Stereogum said the release was “cinematic and surreal and overwhelming”. Simz is also nominated for Female Artist of the Year alongside Mahalia, Ms Banks, Stefflon Don and FLO. Her single ‘Point and Kill’ features on the list for Track of the Year with fellow contenders Aitch, ArrDee and Central Cee.

The tour commemorates their ninth studio album Will Of The People. The first single from the album, ‘Kill Or Be Killed’ was released in July with frontman Matt Bellamy describing it as “Muse at their heaviest.” He told NME: “Lyrically the song takes influence from my favourite Paul McCartney song ‘Live And Let Die’, a dark take on how life’s adversity can sometimes bring out the worst human instincts to survival at any costs.”

Bellamy discussed the creation of the latest album with The Big Issue, he revealed that their record label wanted them to release a ‘best of’ compilation record. “We were reaching that point where there was talk about maybe doing a greatest hits album,” he said, “we weren’t really in favour of doing that,” “So it’s almost like we’ve made a record that is a greatest hits album – of new songs. That means this album might have a metal track on it – and it’s like, the best metal track we’ve ever done. Or there’s a sort of soft ballad, love song and it’s probably the best ballad love song we’ve ever done, and so on.”

Both the single and album have been released to strong reviews with Kerrang! describing the band as “masters of what they are doing” and agreeing with Matt Bellamy’s description of ‘Kill Or Be Killed’ saying the single alongside “the defiant Won’t Stand Down are some of the heaviest things the band have ever done.” Planet Radio described the album as “hyper-eclectic” and “ambitious.” The album is due for release on 26th August via Warner Records and can be pre-ordered here.

Matt Bellamy (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Chris Wolstenholme (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Dominic Howard (drums) formed the band Muse in Teignmouth, Devon back in 1994. In an interview with BBC News, Ryder said he used an “old-fashioned mailing list situation,” and “sent out an email saying ‘hey do you wanna come and sing with us?” Fans could sign up via a link to get an invite to join Sam and his team. “A bunch of people came down,” he said “we just sang the song over and over again. I think I sang it about 50 times today.”

His two singles are the first released from his upcoming album There’s Nothing But Space, Man! which is set to be released on 14th October. ‘Somebody‘ is co-written by Sam with Jon Green and Max Wolfgang who also co-wrote Sam’s Eurovision 2022 entry. “I didn’t really know that I was making the album,” he told NME, “Last year, I wrote about 100 songs, and not all of them are good, it’s just the nature of writing songs.” “Some of my favourites we’ve put together for an album. It’s done, you’re just curating the thing. You’ve got this collection of work and you’re putting it together now, and then making the final touches and then listening back to ones and going, ‘God, that line’s a shocker, I’ll have to change that next week’.”

Sam’s success at Eurovision means the UK is set to host the 2023 edition of the contest. “It’s really exciting that it’s on home soil,” he told the BBC, “but it’s also really important to remember why it’s being held here and the responsibility that we have to throw the best party that shows off and celebrates all of the beauty and rich history of Ukrainian culture.”
