Legendary American indie-dance act, LCD Soundsystem has hinted towards a UK Tour through a cryptic social media post. The band last played in the United Kingdom in the summer of 2022, playing 6 shows in Brixton’s 02 Academy.

Fans spotted a sponsored post across social media sites that indicated that the band were ready to tour the country. The post reads, “Back in the UK, 2024. Pre-sale sign up now live.”. The group last released music in 2022, with a song called ‘New Body Rhumba’. Their last full-length album came five years before in 2017, with American Dream.

LCD Soundsystem is comprised of mostly only James Murphy when recording music inside the studio but have toured as an extensive band since the group’s inception in 2002. LCD Soundsystem released their debut self-titled album in 2005, followed up two years later with the highly acclaimed, Sound of Silver in 2007. The group then released This Is Happening in 2010 before putting the project on hiatus, coming back in 2017 to release American Dream.

The band are currently playing across New York for there annual residency in the area. The band’s tour which they called the ‘Tri Boro Tour’, includes 4 shows at the Brooklyn Steel, 5 shows in Manhattan’s Terminal 5 and 3 shows in Queen’ Knockdown Centre. The band will also be playing follow-up shows in San Francisco on December 30th and 31st.

When asked about the band’s future plans earlier this year, frontman James Murphy said: “We’re trying to just be a band, play music and play in cities that we like that want to see us. We’re gonna be a normal band in 2023. You know, make some music, put some music out, and hopefully play some more shows. Nothing crazy. I’m not gonna hole up in a stadium.”

LCD Soundsystem will be featuring on the next IDLES album, TANGK, where members James Murphy and Nancy Whang contribute backing vocals for the track, ‘Dancer’. The Bristol-based band were joined by LCD Soundsystem for the last song of their set at a Re:SET show in Chicago on June 25. IDLES Frontman Joe Talbot said: “OK, I want to make this very clear. We are forever humbled and very grateful to share a stage with LCD Soundsystem, I’m also humbled by the fact I get to sing an anti-fascist song to people with open minds and hearts. Thank you for welcoming us into your beautiful country. We’ll see you very soon.”

Sadiq Khan has rejected the plans for the MSG Sphere to be placed in Stratford, London. The Sphere would have looked very similar to the Sphere in Las Vegas that has been grabbing attention since its opening in September of this year.

The Sphere in Las Vegas is a 21,500 was first announced in 2018 by the Madison Square Garden Entertainment Group and would have been the largest arena by capacity in the UK. The plans for the venue would have had the Sphere lighting up the Stratford area adjacent to the Westfield Shopping Centre and the Olympic Park.

When plans were originally presented for the London site in 2018 it received the support of London Mayor, Sadiq Khan and then-Culture Secretary, Matt Hancock. Network Rail originally had an objection to the venue, but then withdrew the objection as the plans became clearer in 2019.

Plans were drawn up to include a smaller 1,500 capacity venue inside the sphere to support smaller grassroots. A complex including shops and restaurants were also drawn up within the plans. A 2019 application informed that thousands of jobs would be made available with the new project, however thousands of residents had objected to the venue’s construction and concerns were raised by the London Assembly Environment Committee about light levels.

The project gained planning approval on March 22nd 2022, with the next steps being a review from the Mayor of London as well as a legal planning agreement. However, it has now been revealed that the venue has not passed the review from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

A spokesperson for Khan said: “London is open to investment from around the world and Sadiq wants to see more world-class, ambitious, innovative entertainment venues in our city. But as part of looking at the planning application for the MSG Sphere, the mayor has seen independent evidence that shows the current proposals would result in an unacceptable negative impact on local residents.”

London’s cultural venues are incredibly important, but this application was always inappropriate for the site and the 25-year advertising consent the applicants demanded shows they were not interested in contributing to our capital’s cultural scene – but bombarding the residents of Stratford with endless advertising,”.

Prog-metal legends, TOOL, have announced a 2024 United Kingdom and European tour. The dates commence in the summer of next year.

TOOL – comprised of Maynard James Keenan, Adam Jones, Justin Chancellor, and Danny Carey – will be heading into the UK and Europe for the first time since May of last year (2022). The band are currently in the middle of a tour of North America, which ends in February next year.

The tour starts at the ZAG Arena in Hannover, Germany on May 25th before continuing in Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome two days later. The band then heads into the United Kingdom for three shows, the first being at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham on May 30th and then heading to the AO Arena in Manchester on June 1st. They then conclude the UK part of the tour with a show at London’s 02 Arena two days later, on June 3rd.

TOOL then continue their tour on June 5th with a show at the FR Accor Arena in Paris, France. They will then subsequently play shows in Berlin, Wien, Stockholm, Budapest and many more. The tour ends with a show at Oslo’s Tons of Rock Festival on June 27th.

The bands last album was Fear Inoculum, released in 2019, with a massive 13-year gap between the album before that, 10,000 Days, released in 2006. The band blew up in 90’s with the single “Sober” in 1993 from the album, Undertow. The band later became renowned for albums Aenima in 1996 and Lateralus in 2001.

Bassist Justin Chancellor, spoke about how the band has been writing material for the next album, saying: “So we’ve got all the ingredients in place. We’ve just got to really bang it out and spend that time when we’re not touring”. When asked about any unreleased music, he said: “Tonnes from the last album. We have tonnes of ideas. But not recorded to the standard that we’d put on an album. Just kind of… lots of demoed stuff. And just tonnes of ideas that are just stored away.” Drummer Danny Carey, said “We have tons of material. It’s not going to take 12 years, or if it does, I’ll probably be so old I probably can’t pick up my sticks anymore! But my hope is we’ll do another record and just keep moving forward.”

Tickets for the show go on tour this Friday (November 17th) and can be purchased here. Furthermore, tickets are available via presale for members of the bands fan club here.

British rock band, The Smile, have announced a new album, Wall Of Eyes and a new UK and European tour alongside the release next year. The album releases on January 26 via XL Recordings.

The Smile is a super group made up of Radiohead singer Thom Yorke and the band’s multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood alongside former Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner. The band released their last album, A Light For Attracting Attention, in 2021 after working on the album across COVID-19 pandemic lockdown of 2020.

The band have already released the music video for the lead single and title track, “Wall of Eyes”. The video was directed by director Paul Thomas Anderson, famous for movies such There Will Be Blood and Licorice Pizza. Jonny Greenwood has previously worked with Paul Thomas Anderson, composing music for There Will Be Blood and Thom Yorke has worked with the director for the short film, Anima, which used music from Thom Yorke’s solo album of the same name. The new album also includes the track ‘Bending Hectic’, which the band had already released in a studio version form earlier in the year after debuting the song at Montreux Jazz Festival last year.

Jonny Greenwood has spoken about the possibility of a new album from The Smile earlier this year, as he said: “The frustration of having not had access to playing in a band for a couple of years [has] just built up a big backlog of ideas, we’re still firing off each other, and it feels productive. So, while that’s happening, we just wanna keep moving forward, I think.” The new album was recorded in Oxford and at Abbey Road Studios. The album is produced by Sam Petts-Davis, who produced Thom Yorke’s Susperia soundtrack in 2018. The London Contemporary Orchestra also appear on the album for string arrangements, which can be heard on the lead single.

The Smile will be on tour in the UK and Europe during March 2024.

Heavy hitters include, Young Fathers, an experimental Scottish hip hop who won a mercury prize award in 2014 for their album Dead. The group have gone on to make history by winning their third Scottish Album of the Year award with their latest album, Heavy, Heavy. They are the first artists to win the award three times. Furthermore, UK post punk band, Squid, from Brighton, have been announced for the lineup after they released their album, O Monolith, earlier in the year. The band released an audiobook to go alongside the album, written by Paul Ewan and narrated by Tim Key.

The other artists added to the lineup are Alice Glass, Charlotte Adigary & Bolis Pupil, Ben UFO, Crumb, Eartheater, Helena Hauff, The Babe Rainbow, Bodega, The Dare, David Holmes, Optimo, Al Lover, C.O.F.F.I.N, Decius, Etran Du L’air, Upchuck and Yhwh Nailgun.

A lot more artists should be announced for the day-festival in due course. Last years festival was headlined by Caroline Polacheck and hosted an eclectic batch of artists alongside the headliner, including Alex G, Black Country New Road, Viagra Boys, Jockstrap, Osees, Ty Segall, Joy Orbison and many more.

It is unknown when more artists will be announced for the festival, but more waves of announcements should be expected soon leading up closer to the date of the festival.

The day festival opens on May 25th, 2024, and the current wave of tickets can be found here.

Australian indie rock band, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, have announced tour dates across the United Kingdom and Europe for 2024. The band also announced shows across North America and South America dates for next year.

The band took to their social media pages to announce a whopping 58 shows from March to November of next year. The extensive tour includes festivals, arenas, amphitheaters and even stadiums across the globe. The band had previously already announced there headlining set at next years Wide Awake Festival in Brixton, London, but they have now added more shows across the United Kingdom and Europe.

The band have just released their 25th studio album, The Silver Chord, last month and previously released metal album, PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation, last June. The band are known for being prolific in releasing a lot of material, bringing out five studio albums in 2017 and 2022. Releasing only 2 studio albums this year can be considered a quiet year for the band, whom are one of the hardest working musical acts in the world.

The band have talked about the new album and its link to the previous one, saying the two albums are “birthed from the same womb. PetroDragonic Apocalypse’’s supercharged opener ‘Motor Spirit’ is in fact just a blackened and twisted version of ‘The Silver Cord’’s hypnotic first track ‘Theia’.” They also spoke of their being two versions of the new album, saying: More unconventional still, there are two different versions of ‘The Silver Cord’: one where their jams are ruthlessly honed into a tight 28 minutes, and another where they’re allowed to sprawl across an hour and a half.

The band, however, did release a nine-hour 86 track long live album at the beginning of this year, Live at Red Rocks 22, which is material stretched across three nights of three-hour marathon sets at the Red Rocks in Colorado, United States. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard also released another live album this year, Live in Chicago ’23, which is again very long, clocking in at 5 and a half hours, with material comprising over three sets across three nights.

Tickets for all of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s tour dates go on general sale on Friday (November 10) and tickets can be found here. The presale goes live on November 8th and can be found on the band’s official website here.

British pop legend Kate Bush was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last Friday (November 3rd), at a ceremony in Brooklyn, United States. The icon was inducted by OutKast rapper Big Boi, a self-professed super-fan of the artist who also delivered a speech in her honour. A video package was also played including the likes of Elton John, Lauren Mayberry, and St Vincent.

Kate Bush was not at the ceremony in Brooklyn herself as she released a statement on her website, saying: “I am completely blown away by this huge honour – an award that sits in the big beating heart of the American music industry. Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me. I never imagined I would be given this wonderful accolade. Last year was such a surprisingly successful time for my track Running Up That Hill and I’m sure that a lot of you who’ve voted me in to the RRHOF also drove that track up the charts. Thank you! I’m afraid I won’t be able to attend the ceremony tonight, but for me the real honour is knowing that you felt I deserved it.”

In place of Bush, St Vincent performed ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)’ at the ceremony in her honour. St Vincent later released a post on social media, recalling her admiration for Bush, as she said: “Kate Bush. First heard her song ‘This Woman’s Work” in the pivotal scene in the 1988 film She’s Having A Baby. And though I was 7 or 8 and too young to understand much of anything, I wept. Then around age 16 I went to CD World in Dallas and saw a copy of ‘The Sensual World’ on the racks. And I was so taken with her. Her expression. The flower to her lips. I hadn’t put the pieces together yet that this was the woman who sang THAT song. But I took it home and it was her. That woman who could soar so high into the ether and reach so deep into your soul. The entire album is a masterpiece, but I still cannot listen to ‘This Woman’s Work’ without weeping. I stand in awe of Kate Bush. There is no one who could ever compare.”

St Vincent’s performance of ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)’ can be found below.

Kate Bush had been nominated for the honour three times before in 2018, 2021 and 2022, but did not get an induction until this year. Bush’s song ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)’ was used on the fourth season of Stranger Things, with the track earning fresh recognition with a younger audience, particularly in the United States – No doubt contributing to her induction.

This will be the final song from the Beatles, as the track was created by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr with John Lennon and George Harrison being incorporated with the help of AI software, via using isolated demo tracks. The song was mentioned by both McCartney and Starr across the year, and its release was hinted earlier this week with projection images of cassettes across important landmarks related to the band in Liverpool like the Cavern Club and Strawberry Fields.

The track ‘Now and Then’, was first wrote by John Lennon in the late 1970’s, with a demo recorded with just piano and vocals from Lennon in his New York home. The recording was given to McCartney, Starr and Harrison in 1994, alongside already released demo recordings: ‘Free As A Bird’ and ‘Real Love’, tracks that were released in the mid 1990’s as part of The Beatles Anthology.

Technological limitations at the time meant that the band couldn’t build upon the demo mix of ‘Now and Then’ as they did with the other songs, because they couldn’t find a way to separate Lennon’s piano and vocals to create a clear mix, something which was able to be achieved with modern day AI technology. George Harrison’s widow, Olivia commented on this, saying: “Back in 1995, after several days in the studio working on the track, George felt the technical issues with the demo were insurmountable and concluded that it was not possible to finish the track to a high enough standard”.

Paul McCartney commented on the new recording saying: “It’s quite emotional. And we all play on it, it’s a genuine Beatles recording. In 2023 to still be working on Beatles music, and about to release a new song the public haven’t heard, I think it’s an exciting thing.” Ringo Starr also added: “It was the closest we’ll ever come to having him back in the room so it was very emotional for all of us. It was like John was there, you know. It’s far out.”

The creation of the new song was inspired by the AI audio technology used in the Peter Jackson ‘Get Back’ documentary, which released in 2021 as the technology was able to isolate conversations from videos of recording sessions of Let It Be. The band used the technology to remix Revolver in 2022, before deciding to use the technology to revisit ‘Now and Then’.

The Red and Blue compilation albums will also be reissued and remixed the following week on November 10th, with 21 tracks being newly added, 9 on Blue and 12 on Red. This includes newly mixed tracks from singles and albums that had not been previously remixed across the past 6 years with tracks like ‘Help!’ from Help!, ‘Nowhere Man’ from Rubber Soul and ‘Hey Bulldog’ from Yellow Submarine Soundtrack, just to name a few.

The Beatles are teasing an upcoming “last song” for the band, by projecting orange and white cassettes across their hometown of Liverpool. The new track has been created by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr in conjunction with AI, which will include all four members of the Beatles, including John Lennon and George Harrison.

The release date or title of the new track is currently unknown, but the track is being teased across Liverpool, with projections of an orange and white cassette showing up across locations like the Cavern Club, which the band had played over 200 times in the 1960’s. The projections have also showed up outside the grounds of Strawberry Fields and next to a road sign for Penny Lane, both locations which inspired hit Beatles songs, as well as outside of John Lennon’s childhood home and the Sgt Pepper Bistro.

The Beatles’ social media pages have made it clear that the projections are a tease for the new track as they have posted the same cassette across their accounts. In interviews drummer Ringo Starr has even said: “It should’ve been out already”, meaning it can only be assumed that a release is imminent.

https://t.co/WD7FPPbm1P pic.twitter.com/xEXToI76E2

— The Beatles (@thebeatles) October 25, 2023

Ringo Starr has spoken about the track many times across the year, as he has previously said: “It’s not down to AI… It’s not like we’re pretending anything. That is actually John’s voice, Paul’s voice and bass playing, George on rhythm guitar and me on drums. The two things that are new are Paul’s bass and me on drums… I really worked at it just months ago here. And it works. It’s a beautiful song. You know, for all the madness going on around it, it’s still a beautiful track. And our last track.”

Paul McCartney has also shed light on the upcoming track and the process behind making it, as he said: “We’ve seen some confusion and speculation about it. Seems to be a lot of guess work out there. Can’t say too much at this stage but to be clear, nothing has been artificially or synthetically created. It’s all real and we all play on it, we cleaned up some existing recordings – a process which has gone on for years. We hope you love it as much as we do. More news in due course.”

It would seem that the AI technology is being used to isolate Harrison and Lennon’s tracks within a demo tape and use that demo as a basis to create a full final track alongside McCartney’s and Starr’s new recordings. More will be known once the track has finally been released.

Electronic duo Underworld – comprised of Rick Smith and Karl Hyde – have announced a 2024 EU/UK tour. The tour comprises of dates from March to April across Mainland Europe before rounding out the tour in the United Kingdom.

The announcement follows the duos recently released single ‘Denver Luna’ earlier this month, an 8-minute track which was teased at shows earlier this year. The track has also been released in an acapella format which differs massively from the full release.
