Manchester’s rising five-piece are back with another taster off their debut album.
The Guest List have announced their next single, ‘If Ever Your Devil Is Kind’, set for release on July 3rd. The track is the latest preview of their highly anticipated debut album ‘Something Real’ which is due out on August 28th and marks another significant moment in what has been a breakout year for the Altrincham-bred indie rockers who released ‘Canada’ and ‘London’.
The song, frontman Cai Alty has explained, originated from watching a football crowd and thinking about anger that doesn’t really go anywhere anymore. They lean into the idea that even when things are fine, people can still hold onto moments and emotions. It’s the kind of deceptively observational songwriting that has become a hallmark of the band where their lyrics and narratives are rooted in an everyday images but quietly carrying something much larger underneath the surface of the track.
The track has already made a strong impression through its live performances, with its vocals drawing comparisons to Liam Gallagher while sonically landing in Irish folk sounds. The single arrives off the back of a huge few months for the group where they recently dropped their previous single ‘Something Real’, that earned national radio support from BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music. Rolling Stone UK called it “thrillingly ambitious” and “reminiscent of Humbug-era Arctic Monkeys“.
Their debut album ‘Something Real’ was recorded in Bergen, Norway with producer Matias Tellez and spans twelve tracks that dissect and transform mental health, anxiety, male suicide, domestic violence, climate collapse, and the band’s political outrages into enjoyable indie tracks.
Cai has described it as the band saying, “we’re young, we’re confused just like you, how did we get here? It’s about trying to find something meaningful in a world that often feels overwhelming”.
The band have played Glastonbury and TRNSMT last year, and supported Blossoms and Inhaler. Now they are anticipating their first biggest headline tour yet confirmed for this November, including a show at London’s Scala and appearances at Reading & Leeds, Latitude, and Tramlines.
