We welcome the rock band Greta Van Fleet back onstage, who’ve just announced their upcoming world tour. This announcement comes as no surprise as it is the celebration of their soon to be released album Starcatcher. This is to be their third studio album release after their The Battle At Garden’s Gate release back in 2021. Expect to have it with us by the 21st July, 2023.

The band have not held back with this year’s tour. Starting on the 24th of July, just after they release Starcatcher, they will be performing at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. And they will make their way around various countries all the way through until December where they will be making their grand finale in Lisbon, Portugal, at the Campo Pequeño, performing alongside Black Honey.

It is a grand tour which will be seeing the best of American arena shows throughout July, August and September before finally crossing the pond in November. Europeans will be happy to know that they will be visiting more countries than originally imagines, such as Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Italy, Spain and, as mentioned before, Portugal. Most of these mentioned shows are to be held in arena stadiums. They do not go easy.

In just three years Van Fleet have gone from hopping through Detroit bars to selling out Arena tours quicker than a dog could lick a dish clean. Best known for their fans favourite “Safari Song”, “Highway Tune” and “Black Smoke Rising” from their debut album.

Within the creation of this ten track album, the musicians reflect and explore the duality of fantasy versus reality and the contrast between light and darkness. Hence the naming of the album Starcatcher. We had this idea that we wanted to tell these stories to build a universe,” says Wagner in a press release. “We wanted to introduce characters and motifs and these ideas that would come about here and there throughout our careers through this world.”

The album is a follow up from their last, of which they have taken concepts from to apply to their newly constructed project, in another formality. They have teased us with a previously released single of the lot “Meeting The Master”. Within music different questions lead to different answers. But their general concept stands the same. The band is very well known for their live performances and have never failed to sell out arena tours, such as the ones waiting ahead of them.

Tickets went on sale this morning (19 April) at 10 am.

Due to injuries sustained from excessive touring, American rock band Greta Van Fleet have had to cancel their UK & European tour. Frontman Josh Kiszka has been suffering from an upper respiratory infection that he picked up from the band’s 2018 world tour. The news was revealed in one of the band’s Facebook posts where they also released the dates to their re-scheduled tour which starts in November. Their tour was meant to begin yesterday (February 22nd) in Barcelona with the band expecting a set of sold-out shows in the UK starting on March 5th.

They had this to say in the post, “A year and a half of constant touring has been both invigorating and exhausting. Josh currently has a relentless upper respiratory infection that has not yet had the chance to heal. His doctor has required extended rest as the only path to full recovery.

“It now feels necessary for the entire band to recalibrate our balance, both physically and mentally. Rather than continuing on to more performances and exacerbate things further, we have made this decision in order to give you the full Greta Van Fleet experience when we meet again.”

“We are heartbroken in sharing this setback with you and hope you can understand this painful decision. It will be extremely satisfying to reconcile this calamity by making the most of our time together in a healthier state.”

The European tour is in support of the band’s debut album ‘Anthem of the Peaceful Army‘ which was released in October last year. The album has seen significant commercial success with the record reaching number 1 in the American rock albums chart in its first week. It reached number 5 in the UK charts.

Despite the commercial success, the album received mixed critical responses. Although publications such as Classic Rock Magazine strongly praised the album stating, “It might be saddled with the worst title in living memory, but Anthem Of The Peaceful Army really is one of the most exciting records released by a new band in recent years. This is partly a result of the amount of money and attention that’s being thrown at them – this is the first time in years that a rock band has been given a genuine fighting chance by a major label – but it’s mostly down to the youthful, unmanufacturable exhilaration that courses through its 10 tracks.”

However, the band’s sound has been criticised for its similarity to that of Led Zeppelin, the pioneering hard rock legends of the 70’s. Pitchfork gave the album a 1.6 score and began the review with, “Greta Van Fleet sound like they did weed exactly once, called the cops, and tried to record a Led Zeppelin album before they arrested themselves”, before going on to say, “They make music that sounds exactly like Led Zeppelin and demand very little other than forgetting how good Led Zeppelin often were.” However despite this mixed reception, Greta Van Fleet did win a Grammy for best rock album for ‘From the Fires‘ this year.

The UK tour dates are listed below.

March of the Peaceful Army

03/11/19 – Leeds O2 Academy – Leeds
04/11 – Olympia – Dublin
06/11 – Glasgow O2 Academy – Glasgow
07/11 – Newcastle O2 Academy – Newcastle
09/11 – Mountford Hall – Liverpool
10/11 – Rock City – Nottingham

Michigan hard-rock band Greta Van Fleet yesterday released their new single, ‘When The Curtain Falls’. The song is expected to feature on their upcoming debut studio album, which has been slated for a release later this year. Stream the song here or check it out below:

In an age when ‘rock is dead’, the band are certainly not pulling any punches. Opening with a ringing chord reminiscent of ‘A Hard Day’s Night’, the track soon segues into the band’s classic Zeppelin-influenced riffing. With relentless playing from Jake Kizska’s virtuosic lead guitar, Josh Kiszka’s high-pitched squeal and a vocal melody half-lifted from ‘Communication Breakdown’, the song sounds like it could have been on Zeppelin’s 1969 debut – something that Robert Plant, their frontman, himself agreed with.

The single is the group’s first release since their From The Fires double EP, which topped the US Hard Rock charts and received exceptional reviews from critics. Greeted as rock’s saviours, the sibling rockers’ upcoming studio debut is set to drop in late summer. In an interview with Loudwire back in May, Jake explained that the group were “in the mixing process, so it’s [the album] going to be quite soon”. “We’re wrapping it up, so we’re hoping to release that absolutely this year”, he added.

The four-piece are also heading to the UK later this year on their world tour. Get their tickets here and see their itinerary below:
