Death Grips have dropped a new song called ‘Hot Head’, the first track to be released from their forthcoming album The Bottomless Pit.

‘Hot Head’ was posted on their Facebook page as a Youtube link with a message simply stating “NEW TRACK”; the Youtube video was just the song with a black screen. The description on Youtube provided a free download link to the song, hosted on their own label Third Worlds’ website.

The song is the first taste of their new album The Botomless Pit. True to enigmatic form, very little is known about the new album, other than the fact that it is coming out in 2016, and that it might involve the late actress Karen Black – who drummer/producer Zach Hill had written a part for a screenplay for before she died.

Their new song ‘Hot Head’ launches into a barrage of techno-breakcore madness and stuttering shouting, before taking a breath for air amongst rippling synths, only to plunge once more into the relentless flurry of drums, vocals and twisted samples. The song sounds very reminiscent of the cryptically titled ‘Death Grips 2.0′ which closed 2015’s The Powers That B. you can listen to the song below:

Bottomless Pit is also the first album since their double album The Powers That B, which the band had touted as their last ever album when ‘breaking up’ Via napkin. Although when leaking their ‘final’ album, the band commented “you’re right, we might make some more”; although its unlikely anyone following Death Grips’ public actions doubted as much.

A month ago it was announced David Bowie was releasing a new album called Darkstar (stylised ★) this was shortly after bowie debuted the eponymous track ‘Darkstar’ as the opening theme to Sky’s new series The Last Panthers. Now some new details about the new album have emerged via an interview with Bowie’s producer Tony Visconti over at Rolling Stone, where amongst other things, the Bowie collaborator claimed influences from current Hip Hop king Kendrick Lamar.

Visconti claimed that he and Bowie were “listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar,” and that “We wound up with nothing like that, but we loved the fact Kendrick was so open-minded and he didn’t do a straight-up hip-hop record. He threw everything on there, and that’s exactly what we wanted to do. The goal, in many, many ways, was to avoid rock’n’roll.”

James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem also appears on the album, playing percussion on two tracks. Visconti said that initially Murphy was going to play a significant role on the album, saying: “at one point we were talking about three producers for the album: David, James and myself,” but in the end “he had his own projects to go off to.”

David Bowie’s 25th studio album ★ will be released in January, until then you can watch the full 10 minute video of tor the albums first single below:

Death Grips have announced a follow album up to this year’s ‘Jenny Death’ called ‘Bottomless Pit’. Of course they aren’t letting the fact they officially broke up via napkin last year stop them. But then this is also the band that, after bizarrely signing to major label Epic Records, went behind Epic’s back and leaked their own album, ‘NO LOVE DEEP WEB’, on torrent sites with a picture of drummer Zach Hill’s erect penis as the album artwork.

The album was announced out of the blue on the bands Facebook page in a typically weird Death Grips fashion. The post simply read “We’ve decided to make a new Death Grips album and it will be called Bottomless Pit.” It was also accompanied by a fourteen minute video of the late actress Karen Black from 2013, reading out a script written by Zach Hill.

The video’s epigraph states: “Iconic 70’s film star Karen Black passed away in August 2013. In February of that year, Karyn Rachtman introduced Ms. Black to Zach Hill. The two immediately hit it off. Zach had written a part for Karen for a film he was developing and gave her the pages for her scenes. Though she didn’t know how the scenes would fit into the final film, she readily agreed to read her character’s dialog on camera for Zach.”

You can watch the video below:

Since they’ve ‘broken up’ the band dropped a stack of instrumentals for NY Fashion Week, along with promoting an album by the mysterious ‘the i.l.y’s’ called ‘I’ve Always Been Good at True Love’ (the band turned out to be Zach Hill and the band’s elusive engineer Andy Morin, with MC Ride making a guest appearance).
