Alt-pop, contemporary rock sensation Yungblud has shared his new single ‘Lovesick Lullaby’ at midnight today (25 April).
The song is a raucous onslaught of energy from the very start. Yungblud offers bold punk vocals, baring vulnerable romantic truths and relatable heartaches. The style is reminiscent of past hits with the quintessential conversational vocals he’s brought to fan favourite singles such as, ‘Parents’ from ‘the underrated youth’ EP and several tracks from his Britpop/punk album ’21st Century Liability’. ‘Lovesick Lullaby’ similarly interjects with a softer choral sound for the hook.
The song follows his previous 9-minute epic track ‘Hello Heaven, Hello’, a heart-breaking rock ballad where the singer offers rich guitar solos and an emotional, screaming voice. He explained in an interview with Dork Magazine his thoughts on the opening single, stating “It’s a journey of self-reclamation, a goodbye to the past and how you may have known or perceived me before, and a hello to the future and where I’m going.”. Friend and fellow musician of Yungblud, Lewis Capaldi, gave his new music a stamp of approval, sharing with fans that the new music is “sounding great”.
With this bold new single, Yungblud shared with NME that he describes ‘Lovesick Lullaby’ a “brazen, up-tempo anthem”. He also explains his thoughts on his sonic journey with three studio albums and six EPs. His latest project, he reveals, is a return “to British music, to British art and culture.”.
Yungblud has revelled in vulnerability throughout his music career, creating an unbreaking affinity with his fans. The singer boldened this notion with the release of an interactive, illustrated book last year titled ‘You Need To Exist’. Further to this, Yungblud created his own festival ‘BludFest’. He describes the festival on the website with the statement, “it’s a movement, a family, and a space where individuality thrives.”. The festival will return this June at Milton Keynes Bowl with an incredible line-up including Blackbear, Denzel Curry and Rachel Chinouriri.
‘Lovesick Lullaby’ was debuted at an intimate free show at Scala in London. Fans immediately latched onto the track alongside another two unreleased songs that he performed, ‘Zombie’ and ‘Ghosts’. At this track, he urged fans to stop recording and consider their mortality, proclaiming “don’t forget to fucking live man”.
Fans have compared the live performance to the studio version, sharing their love for the singer’s new era of music.
The difference from the studio version to the live version of lovesick lullaby is the studio version gives me more oasis vibes and the live version was more sex pistols??? But it’s absolutely amazing how sick the song is I LOVE IT — rubiee (@crackedact0r) April 24, 2025
Yungblud’s ‘Lovesick Lullaby’ has been welcomed widely by listeners, and the artist will be releasing a music video to accompany the single at 4pm BST, which fans also eagerly await.
