Westerman, the project of London-based experimental pop artist Will Westerman, has released his new single ‘Adriatic’ in anticipation for his new album ‘A Jackal’s Wedding’, releasing on November 7. Westerman has spent time in Italy and Greece, and wrote his latest album on the Greek island of Hydra, referenced in the title to his new song ‘Adriatic’.
About his new single, Waterman said for Partisan Records “I wrote ‘Adriatic’ while failing at moving to Greece. I was trying to break outside of the confines of my immediate physical reality. Life is full of practical limitations in terms of having a body, or what you can afford in terms of money, etc. but you can always go to a place in your head where everything is possible, and the song is a celebration of reclaiming that.”. You can see the music video to his latest single below:
‘A Jackal’s Wedding‘ will be Westerman’s third album, following ‘An Inbuilt Fault‘, released in 2023. His website states “Westerman’s third album, ‘A Jackal’s Wedding‘, is a humid, nocturnal record shaped by constant transition. Written largely in Athens and recorded at night over five weeks on the Greek island of Hydra with producer Marta Salogni (Björk, The xx, Sampha, English Teacher), the album takes its name from a folkloric term for a sunshower, a strange and beautiful contradiction that mirrors the record’s themes of motion, change, and surreal clarity.”.
Westerman released his first EP, titled ‘Call and Response’ in 2017, though his breakthrough happened the year later with the release of his single ‘Confirmation’, a single awarded Best New Track by Pitchfork. Confirmation introduced his dreamy sound to the wider music world while the song delves into the process of song-writing and the self-doubt when creating new music.
Westerman’s debut album ‘Your Hero is Not Dead‘ was released to critical acclaim, with honest, moving lyrics and a full synth-heavy sound. In this album, he continues his exploration on song-writing while showing his bravery with intriguing instrumentals. His second album ‘An Inbuilt Fault‘ follows the same lyrical themes though it is a lot more stripped back and allows more space for Westerman’s vocals to shine through. If his new single is an indication of the entire album, the new album will turn up the experimentation while using more catchy, danceable pulse.
‘A Jackal’s Wedding‘ will be released on November 7 2025, you can preorder it here.
