Oasis have kicked off their long-anticipated reunion tour in Cardiff.
The time fans have been waiting for since last summer, when Britpop legends Oasis announced their reunion tour, has finally arrived. Formed in Manchester in the early ’90s, Oasis shot into superstardom, charting 8 UK number 1 singles and albums across their career. Hits such as ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ remain instant crowd-pleasers, and the band has firmly cemented itself in British pop culture.
Oasis have a turbulent history, largely centred around the long-standing feud between brothers and bandmates Liam and Noel Gallagher. The conflict has spanned decades, even after the band’s split in 2009, which was the last time Oasis performed together. So when the band announced their reunion tour in August of last year, the reaction from fans was overwhelming.
Across the UK and Ireland alone, around 14 million people were said to have attempted to purchase one of the 1.4 million tickets. Fans waited for tickets for so long they were kicked out of the Ticketmaster queues as they were mistaken for bots, and many ticket resellers marked up the price of the tickets to several thousand pounds.
Today, 4 July, marks the first day in the ‘Oasis Live ’25’ tour, where the band will perform at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. It’s an event so hotly anticipated that several news outlets such as The Guardian and The Independent are posting live updates on the goings-on at the show.
So far, the likes of The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft and Scouse rock band Cast have taken the stage, with Cast delivering a touching tribute to the late Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota. Oasis were set to take to the stage for the first time in 16 years at 20:15 BST, but arrived two minutes later than planned. They ended their hiatus in front of 74,000 fans, and thousands more watching online, with the aptly chosen track, ‘Hello’.
The ‘Oasis Live ’25’ tour will run until November of this year, starting in the UK before spanning all across the world. The UK tour dates are as follows:
