English actress and singer-songwriter Naomi Scott has just released a new single titled ‘Rhythm’. The new single is a pulsing bass-led track that was written alongside artist Johnny Yukon described as a sensual delight and redefines her R&B impulses. While a complete album has not yet been announced, there is excitement for creating this music and having control over the project in its entirety.
The new single dropped with a music video directed by Dev Hynes, who has also directed music videos and short films for Blood Orange and Vampire Weekend. The music video is shot in a house, showing close-up shots and choreography of Naomi Scott, creating intimate framing and qualities, as well as a confident atmosphere and compelling on-screen movements.
Naomi Scott is known for her acting career, as she started on Disney Channel, starring in Lemonade Mouth back in 2011. Her breakout roles started in 2017, starring in Power Rangers and Charlie’s Angels alongside Kristen Stewart, Ella Balinska, and Elizabeth Banks. She also portrayed Jasmine in the live-action Aladdin movie, and most recently starred in the horror, Smile 2.
Although Naomi is known more for starring in front of the screen as an actress, she started her music career while creating and singing songs within the soundtracks of all of her films. Lemonade Mouth was a significant step in her music career, singing the lead on ‘She’s So Gone’, and featured in songs ‘Breakthrough’ and ‘More Than a Band’. She also sang the solo and duet parts as Jasmine in Aladdin with songs ‘Speechless’ and ‘A Whole New World’.
Naomi featured and performed many songs in her Smile 2 film released last year, including tracks ‘Greived You’, ‘New Brain’, ‘Blood On White Satin’, and ‘Just My Name’. Scott released her debut EP titled ‘Invisible Division’ in 2014 and her second EP in 2016 titled ‘Promises’.
Naomi Scott will make her debut music festival performance on August 2 at the famous Lollapalooza festival in Chicago on the Grove stage. She will be performing amongst other artists such as Tyler The Creator, Rufus Du Sol, Doechi, Sabrina Carpenter, Montell Fish, and Clairo that weekend. See the complete lineup here.
