Former Little Mix star Leigh-Anne released her new single ‘Burning Up’ and debuted it at Reading and Leeds festival over the weekend.
The fiery song explores themes of love and freedom, and draws inspiration from Leigh-Anne’s Caribbean heritage.
‘Burning Up’ came to life in a songwriting camp in New York where Leigh-Anne worked with songwriters and producers who she has been inspired by. The singer explained the process by saying, “We went in with no rules, just vibes and instincts.”
“The beat hit me instantly; it felt euphoric, high-energy, but there was something emotional running through it too, which made it more than just a banger. I played with my voice in ways I never have before with different textures, phrasing, pushing my range. It really stretched me as an artist, and I think you can feel that in the track.”
‘Burning Up’ and ‘Been A Minute’ are her first two songs that have been released since she dropped her EP ‘No Hard Feelings’ last year.
These new releases came just before her performance at Reading and Leeds festival where she debuted the song, along with singing renditions of Little-Mix’s fan favourites ‘Touch’, ‘Sweet Melody’, and ‘Power’.
After Leigh-Anne posted on Instagram about her time at Reading and Leeds festival, fans reacted in the comments by saying, “Always gonna be so proud of you!!! ❤️” and “could watch u perform all day! u were so amazing ❤️❤️❤️.”
During an interview with NME at Reading festival, Leigh-Anne spoke about her two new singles, ““It is 100 per cent the start of a new era. I had to take a bit of time to step back – and I’m newly independent now as well – so I was going through that process.”
She also spoke about a potential new solo album saying, ““It’s nearly done! It’s so, so close, and I’m already so happy that I can actually say that! It’s everything that I wanted it to be. It’s the mix of the sounds that I love, paired with my Leigh-Anne pop stamp.”
