In a interview with with The NME last summer Serge hinted that he has been working on other projects and there may be a delay before the next Kasabian record. “I’m just collecting and enjoying not having any plans at the moment,. Just listening. Just seeing what’s out in the world. Sometimes it’s nice just to listen and not say anything. The world at the moment is a pretty slippery character, and everything is moving at a pace that’s never been seen before. I’m just enjoying getting back into listening to music.”
“Back in the day I would dig for beats, now I sort of dig for hooks and ideas. I’ll flick through streams and think: ‘I like that 10 seconds’ and record it, and accumulate them, so now I have this library of things. It kind of explains the world at the moment, because it can go from 10 seconds of thrash metal to two minutes of a 1920s track with a banjo. I don’t really know what I’m collecting, but there’s always something in there that triggers the next move.”
This isn’t Serge’s first move away from his Kasabian work, at the tail end of last year he released an art exhibition called “Daft Apeth” with friend Noel Fielding and fellow musician Carl Barat. Speaking at the exhibition Serge said “Music and art are kind of one the same medium– creating things. For me, it’s just another expression of what I am.There was a great quote from David Bowie: ‘If you’re on safe ground, you’re already dead’. You’ve got to roll the dice every now and again and step outside of your comfort zone. It does make you nervous, putting it out there for everyone to see, but that’s what you crave. This has improved my ability to make music. It has freed me.”
damn serge you got me hyped at 05:30 am local time!!!!! if thats really a side project im legit losing itttttttt
