The Staines-upon-Thames born group performed their last show in 2014, following the departure of founding member Ross Philips and the release of a greatest hits album entitled Hard Fi: Best of 2004-2014. The band since confirmed officially on Twitter that they were on hiatus and had not truly broken up, saying: “Hmmm I was under the impression we were still hiatusing – is that a word? Hiatusing??” in response to a now-deleted tweet.
Hard-Fi teased their return to music with posters placed around London, and the group have confirmed that they will be getting back together for a show in the city later this year. Frontman Richard Archer confirmed via a Facebook livestream that the venue and date for the group’s reunion show will be London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on October 1st 2022.
Archer said of the forthcoming event: “You may have seen the signs around town – 1st of October 2022, we’re getting the band back together…As if you hadn’t guessed…“I’ve seen some amazing gigs there and one of my favourite of our gigs we did there as well. So we’re gonna be going back there…. Everyone’s back in – Ross is back, Kai, Steve. They should be here but apparently they’ve got something better to do. Anyway, everyone’s back in, 1st of October, it’s a Saturday night.”
For any fans who might be feeling like October 1st is a little too far on the horizon, Hard-Fi will be holding a livestreamed concert performance on April 28th. Archer said: “Any of you who have tuned in to any of our previous livestream attempts will know they’ve always been a slight, complete balls-up, but generally fairly entertaining hopefully…So next Thursday we’re gonna do a full band from our Cherry Lips studio, livestream it, 9pm…We’re gonna play three or four numbers, maybe. Hopefully we can remember all the chords, hopefully I can remember all the words.”
Hard-Fi’s October gig will be announced officially by the event promoter tomorrow (April 25th), and tickets will go on sale next week on Friday the 29th of April at 10 AM. For O2 customers, a pre-sale will be held on Wednesday from 10 AM. Tickets will be available at this link.
