Glastonbury Festival 2025 opened Wednesday night, June 25, with a circus and acrobatic show on the Pyramid Stage. The festival gates opened early Wednesday morning, allowing fans who had traveled across the world to set up their tents throughout the campsites before the opening act. They kicked off with an incredible theatre and circus show on the main stage for the first time since 1990.
The performance was titled ‘The Dreamweaver’s Journey’ featuring acrobats, aerialists, highwire walkers, circus performers, and a collective soundscape created by the audience’s participation through encouragement on making sounds in response to cues on a large screen. This was an ambitious opening after last year’s opening act of their drone show, which disappointed the audience as there were technical difficulties and a lack of engagement.
While the acrobats were above ground, other performers were juggling fire and playing the drums. Although the performers put on an impressive display for this year’s grand opening, there were troubles with the audio and visual difficulties with seeing the detail that was happening on stage, including the crowd engagement section. This led to some of the crowd leaving the performance earlier. However, the opening still ended in the annual fireworks show.
Glastonbury also had a Green Fields opening on top of the circus performance. The Green Fields are a space for sustainability and environmental awareness, allowing for a relaxing, calm space, which is important when surrounded by crowds and noise during festival weekends. It is an important place to call to action, participating in your environment, while also having performers, crafts, rituals, and more, to enjoy positivity and peace.

The Green Fields had a healing field which included four circles representing the elements of earth, air, fire, and water, each with an individual healing quality. This section of the festival allowed for a well-being space. The Green Fields also ended in a fireworks display.
The famous Glastonbury festival started in 1970 as a folk and blues festival with 1,500 attendees. It has now grown into an event with diverse and worldwide known musicians, including theatre, comedy, dance, and art, as well as iconic music performances, averaging around 210,000 attendees. Glastonbury is the largest music festival in the UK and one of the largest festivals in the world.
This year’s 3-day festival headliners are The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo. Glastonbury’s lineup also includes notable acts, Charli XCX, Noah Kahan, DJO, Raye, Doechii, Deftones, Girl In Red, Gracie Abrams, Kneecap, and more. Check out the complete lineup here.
