Sugababes’ official Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts have posted a 14-second cryptic video on Friday with three emojis, representing each member of the group, and a link to their website which leads to the signup to their mailing list next to a button named “KEEP IN TOUCH”. The word “twenty” is also scattered around the group’s name on their site. All of these signs seemingly point to a reunion and new music from the group for the first time in eight years.
The clip itself is rather abstract, with simple graphic animations surrounding “sugababes” written in the centre of the video. There is also a calm piano instrumental sound accompanying the clip. The responses to these posts have been met with both confusion and excitement on social media. @BritLGBTAwards wrote: “They’ve come to save us all” and @jrawson wrote: “WHAT DOES IT MEAN”.

Sugababes shot to fame in the early 2000s with numerous No. 1 singles such as ‘About You Now’, ‘Freak Like Me’ and ‘Round Round’. The original three members, Mutya Buena, Siobhán Donaghy and Keisha Buchanan, has released a single called ‘Flatline’ in 2013 as MKS but have not dropped anything together since.
There had been previous discussions of the Sugababes making new music to mark 20 years after the release of their first album ‘One Touch’, however the plan has been scrapped for various reasons. Buchanan said on Instagram Live: “We had so many plans for last year. 2020 was our anniversary year, we built it up to do so many things but it didn’t happen, so we have to restructure. We just have to be motivated to do it and passionate about it and once we are actually in the studio it flows really easily for us. But it’s about getting us all on the same page on the same date and the pandemic makes it really tricky. It just has to be organic and be on the same page as far as our schedules are concerned.”
