English singer Leigh-Anne released a new single this past Friday, July 18, titled ‘Been A Minute’. The song, produced by Elijah Ross, emphasizes nostalgia, personal growth, and a new era. The song highlights a story of rediscovering passion after a period of time away from another person and the feeling of reconnecting.
The singer’s new song has elements of pop, dancehall, and Afrobeats. Leigh-Anne’s new single was also released with a music video directed by Femi Ladi, co-creative directors Leigh-Anne and Natalie Westernoff, and choreographed by Nicole Hastings.
The music video shows a vibrant and lively carnival-inspired visual capturing the energy of a party in a packed after-hours basement. The choreography mirrors a celebratory energy from the track. The visuals immerse viewers into this party scene heavily inspired by Caribbean carnivals, drawing on Leigh-Anne’s heritage. This single follows her 2024 EP ‘No Hard Feelings’, which included six tracks gaining over 65 million streams globally, and her track ‘Nature’ off the EP surpassed 5 million streams, currently her most popular song on Spotify.
Leigh-Anne is well known for being a part of the female pop group Little Mix along with Jade Thirlwall, Jesy Nelson, and Perrie Edwards. The band formed back in 2011 on the UK’s X Factor show, which became a massive success in the 2010s with multiple UK number one singles, platinum-selling albums, and wins of multiple Brit Awards and Teen Choice Awards. Little Mix went on hiatus in 2022 for the members to pursue solo projects.
There is difficulty in finding individuality after being tied to a band and other voices for a decade; however, Leigh-Anne found her sound and identity post Little Mix with her EP and newly released single. The singer is entering an era on her own, shaping who she is as an artist and creator.
