“This is not a drill”. This is the message that appeared on the Principality Stadium screen on Friday night, signifying that the great wait was over. 16 years after the fateful night in Paris, Oasis are back.
Noel and Liam Gallagher strolled out onto stage together, arm-in-arm, before bursting straight into ‘Hello’ with the poignant lyrics “it’s good to be back”. See coverage of that first night on mxdwn.co.uk here.
They played a setlist which included all the hits including ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, ‘Champagne Supernova’ and ‘Wonderwall’… the Britpop icons also treated fans to some tunes that haven’t been played live by the band for over 20 years.
‘Fade Away’, ‘Talk Tonight’ and ‘Little By Little’ all came across as show-stealers as last Friday also marked the first time Noel and Liam sang ‘Acquiesce’ together since 2006. Check out the footage below, the very first professionally shot footage of Oasis on stage since 2009.

The first night back was completed in a drama-free and classy fashion as Noel took to the mic to thank the rest of the band: “Thank you very much to Gem Archer on the guitar, Andy Bell on bass guitar, our 14th drummer Mr Joey Waronker, and this fucking uber legend here” as he points in the direction of Bonehead.
“This song is for all the people in their twenties who have never seen us before and kept this shit going for 20 years”, Noel said before breaking into ‘The Masterplan’.
In a true showing of humility they shared a classy tribute to Liverpool FC’s Diogo Jota, who sadly passed away the day prior in a car crash, during their performance of ‘Live Forever’

As the final chords of ‘Champagne Supernova’ vibrated throughout the stadium, Liam was already off stage, in a car and out of the stadium. Some fans were saying he’s just being sensible before having to do it all again the next day, but some used this to stoke their theories that there has been no reconciliation, this is all just one big cash grab…
Well these theories were quickly shut down, as 24 hours later the two brothers once again walked on stage hand-in-hand and belted out a performance even more powerful, confident and together than the night prior.
A second night which included a bow to each other and a hug full of brotherly love, it looks like the chemistry between the two will continue to grow as the tour goes on.
The Gallaghers and co now have a week off before returning to Manchester next Friday (July 11) for what is sure to be an emotional and powerful night at Heaton Park.
