Mabel has shared plans for her self-titled mixtape, due to be released this summer.
This new project will be released on July 25 through Polydor Records, and is set to hold nine tracks in all. UK rapper Clavish is confirmed to feature on the tape, as well as Oscar Scheller and Arthur Bean providing production.
In a press release, Mabel gave a glimpse into what to expect from the tape:
“The tape is all new music made in the last few months with some of my nearest and dearest. It’s really important to me with this project that people know that this is where I’m at now and I wanted it to come out without too much overthinking.
It’s a blend of all the genres and cultures that make me who I am and I would say it’s beautiful organised chaos. It doesn’t have to make sense to everyone and I think it’s the first time in a long time I’ve been this unfiltered. There’s both a simplicity and a depth to the music that I love, in a way I just wrote it without too much thought but afterwards I realised it’s kind of a toxic love letter to my 10 years in the industry.”
The London pop songstress has dropped a few singles over 2025, including ‘Benz’ and ‘January 19’, which mix alt-R&B with afrobeat rhythms. She collaborated with Australian group ONEFOUR for the smooth drill track, ‘PHONE CALL’, and before that teamed up with King Promise for the afroswing banger ‘All Over You’.
Mabel, the daughter of 80’s Swedish musician Neneh Cherry, has had a successful career so far. Her 2017 debut single ‘Finders Keepers’ reached No. 8 on the UK singles charts. In 2019, her first album ‘High Expectations’ climbed to No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart, later going platinum.
The album featured several UK Top 10 singles, including ‘Don’t Call Me Up’ and ‘Boyfriend’. The following year in 2020, she won the Brit Award for ‘British Female Solo Artist’.
In 2022, she released her second studio album, ‘About Last Night’, a concept album that follows “the progress of a party, from arrival through romantic tension to break-up and final redemption”. It was a critical and commercial success, receiving praise for Mabel’s new musical direction, and debuting at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart.
Mabel just performed at SXSW London last night (June 2), amongst a line-up that includes Sasha Keable, NAO and Tems, to name a few. You can read our pre-coverage on the event here.
